Georges River Council is inviting the community to provide feedback on a proposal to trial a temporary off-leash dog park at Progress Park, Narwee from August 2026 to February 2027.

The proposal follows the closure of the former off-leash dog park at Merv Lynch Reserve in March 2025, leaving a gap for local dog owners who used that space to exercise their dogs.

Georges River Council has been looking for a nearby location that could fill this gap.

Progress Park was identified as the most suitable location for a trial due to its open space, existing fenced area and convenient access. Trees and plants within the park also help separate the space from surrounding homes.

If the six-month trial proceeds, the playspace at Progress Park will be temporarily used as an off-leash dog park and the playground removed. If the trial is not supported, Progress Park will remain unchanged.

If the trial proceeds, the following would occur at Progress Park:

• Dogs must stay on a leash in all unfenced areas of the park.
• The playground equipment would be removed to make the area safe for dogs.
• The off-leash area would operate from 7.00 am to 7.00 pm.
• The existing fencing and seats would remain.
• A waste bin and dog litter bag dispenser would be installed.
• Signs would be installed to explain the trial, operating hours and expected behaviour.

Narwee Park is located 150-metres away and provides a larger, more modern playground for families to access during the trial.

Georges River Council Mayor Elise Borg said, "Local parks play an important role in our community. We want to make sure any proposed change to Progress Park reflects how our community uses and values the space.

"This consultation gives residents the opportunity to consider the proposal and share their views. I encourage everyone to provide feedback."
