When are all these proposed units, developers and monstrosities going to stop?

Our once beautiful Shire has changed too much.

• Much more traffic, cars and people.
• Restricted parking areas.
• Restricted doctors' appointment times.
• Hospital staff under constant stress.
• Parking fees crazy.
• Leisure Centres often chockers.
• Often having to give way driving.
• Parking areas need extending, upgrading and repairs.
• Shopping - Supermarkets, hard to find parking. People stressed.
• More kids in schools, teachers overworked and stressed.
• More teenagers learning to drive, accidents drivers, parents stressed.

Because of all this happening, our lives are becoming very much more stressful and complicated, and destroying our once beautiful Shire.

Train line shutdown

For the third year in a row, Sydney Trains are conducting trackwork on the T4 line, from Sutherland to the south.

The areas of Loftus, Engadine, Heathcote and Waterfall do not have anywhere near as good a bus or train service as the Cronulla line residents have, and the government fail to realise the exploding population growth in this T4 line part of the shire.

I have written a letter to Maryanne Stuart, Labor MP for Heathcote regarding this. In the past, Maryanne has done a marvelous job acting on her electorate's behalf.

'Monolithic' Barden Ridge DA

Regarding your article on June 12, "Monolithic: Scathing report on $10m house at Barden Ridge," it is clear the owners are not concerned about budget when it comes to this build.

This construction does not reflect the character of the surrounding area or the precious bushland. Even the artist's impressions provided are disrespectful, depicting a North American landscape.

It is imperative that the council and those in authority impose strict constraints on the owners and contractors to ensure that this "Gone With Winds" ponderosa is controlled.

If the artist's impressions are to be believed, it appears that this structure is destined to become an eyesore on our landscape.

Water pipeline

As a Como resident, I cannot believe Sydney Water's total lack of maintenance on their two major water pipelines crossing Como Bridge.

For several years, the paint (not toxic I hope) is peeling off and falling directly into the Georges River, some pipes almost completely devoid of paint.

At a time when Sydney Water has considerably increased our water rates it is long overdue time to do maintenance on this major water feed pipeline.

Double demerits

The media informed us of the double demerit points on the June long weekend.

Did the police get the message?

Sylvania Road, between Kingsway and President Avenue, was in racetrack mode for the three days of the long weekend, as is usually the case, with no highway patrol police about.

Surely, if you make the rules, you are obliged to enforce them?

Woronora bridge Flashback

Re the Woronora Bridge Flashback.

The 1912 bridge was still in use when i built my home at Woronora in 1972.

We joined the Progress Committee, I think it was called, and at one stage, the main topic was the fact the the old bridge was to be replaced by a two lane concrete bridge.

The outcry was "our children won't be safe with the increase of traffic", etc. I waited until it calmed down, put my hand up to speak, and said "go and stand on the bridge when the school bus is on it and you'll change your mind'.

There were a few claps, and the new bridge went ahead.

New roundabout

Re the proposed new roundabout at the intersection of Port Hacking Road South and Telopea Street, Caringbah South (Leader, June 17).

Just stop the obvious overdevelopment in this area. It's a suburban area that is turning into a ghetto and everything that comes with it. Tell the state government "no".

Platypus numbers

The increase in the number of platypuses in Royal National Park is wonderful news.

Now, all we need to do, is for the Royal National Park to keep their end up and make sure the regular small burn-offs are kept up to date, especially around the areas that affect those animals.

Shopping trolleys

Over the past eight months there have been three Aldi shopping trolleys dumped near the Sylvania Road rail bridge. As fate or the shopping trolley thieves would have it, two more have joined the original three.

Now we have a total of five Aldi stolen shopping trolleys, compliments of the trolley thieves, now all joined up. The only thing missing is the Aldi store and staff.

I have, without any success, contacted Aldi online on two occasions and made three personal visits to local Aldi stores, asking if they would collect these trollies that we the customer pay for, nothing they are still there.

Sutherland Council, this is where you step in, pick up these unwanted trolleys and scrap them.

Cake decorator OAM

"Cake decorating? " was my initial reaction to the story about the recipient of an OAM in the King's Birthday Honours, until I got further into it. Then it became "blockbuster" stuff.

So, thank you for showing that a normal sort of ''pastime" became anything but.
