A block of land bounded by Arncliffe Street, Burrows Street and Eden Street, Arncliffe has been preserved from development as part of the construction of the M5East. It is still owned by Transport for NSW and currently fenced off, preventing any use by the public.
The block includes several large established trees which could provide a shady park-like environment for residents in that precinct of Arncliffe.
The previous state government had committed to dedicating this land to Bayside Council to enhance access to open space in the area.
The Mayor, Edward McDougall has written several letters seeking confirmation of the current government's intention to fulfill that commitment but has not yet received a definitive response.
Bayside Council is now seeking a meeting with the Minister for Roads, Jenny Aitchison and the Minister for Planning and Public Spaces, Paul Scully and other relevant Ministers to gain their assistance in transferring this land to the council.

Affordable and social housing will be boosted to 75 per cent of the new 800 unit-plus Arncliffe Central project, currently under construction.
NSW Premier and Kogarah MP, Chris Minns and NSW Housing Minister Rose Jackson announced the affordable housing boost for the project last month.
The redevelopment of the former Arncliffe Housing Commission site at 161-179 Princes Highway and 26-42 Eden Street, Arncliffe will have 806 residential units in four towers of between 19 to 23 storeys.
Initially, under plans approved by the former government, the 142 social homes on the old site would have been replaced with 80 social housing units and about 500 private apartments.
An additional investment by the NSW Government and the Commonwealth's Housing Australia Future Fund (HAFF), will see an increase in supply to 75 per cent of the homes built at the site as social and affordable housing.
This will consist of 311 social housing apartments, 291 affordable housing apartments, and 204 private market apartments.
Described as a mixed-tenure community, it will include shops, cafés and essential services on the lower levels, and ongoing resident support.
The project is located next to Arncliffe Station and 10 kilometres from the Sydney CBD.
Homes NSW is partnering with developer Billbergia, and Community Housing Providers (CHPs) Evolve Housing and St George Community Housing on the project.
Homes NSW will own a portion of the social housing properties, managed by Evolve Housing, who will also own and operate their own affordable housing tower.
St George Community Housing will own and operate their own social and affordable housing units.
The new social homes are on track for completion in 2027, and the entire Arncliffe Central project is expected to be completed in 2028.
Mr Minns said hundreds of new affordable homes in Arncliffe means more essential workers, living closer to where they work.
"Families, young people and downsizers are all doing it tough at the moment, so we need to make sure we are making the most of these projects, delivering a mix of private, social and affordable housing,"he said.
"St George Community Housing chief executive, Debi Marriott-Lavery said, "Many residents of the original social housing on this site will return soon, to fresh new homes that are well suited to all ages, and have expanded parkland, greenery and open space.
"This is the kind of housing Australia needs - that's not just about building roofs over heads but about designing people-centred communities. This is true placemaking".
Federal Member for Barton Ash Ambihaipahar said, "In Barton, housing is one of the biggest pressures families are facing. Increasing the share of social and affordable homes in Arncliffe will help more people stay close to their work, their schools, and the community they are part of."
Rockdale MP, Steve Kamper said he was thrilled to see hundreds of new affordable homes on the way for Arncliffe, plus new social homes for those in the community who desperately need it.
Billbergia Group chief executive John Kinsella said the project's partnership reflects a shared commitment to positive social impact alongside high-quality urban design.
"Working with Homes NSW, Evolve Housing, St George Community Housing, and Housing Australia allows us to deliver developments that respond to real community need while creating vibrant, sustainable neighbourhoods with the necessary social infrastructure," he said.
