In the last few weeks, Sutherland Shire Planning Panel approved a two-storey, centre-based childcare centre, with basement parking for 27 vehicles, at 17-19 Formosa Street, on the corner of Melrose Avenue.
The project has an estimated construction cost of $5.8 million.

"The panel considered a child care facility on the proposed site to be compatible with the changing nature of the area under consideration, that conditions of consent can effectively manage amenity and other impacts and that the facility will provide a service that is in demand in the local government area," the decision said.
The proposed hours of operation are 7am to 6pm, Monday to Friday.
The DA said there would be 20 childcare staff, a chef and one administrative employee.

The proposed project, with an estimated construction cost of $5.2 million, includes 28 basement car parking spaces and waste and recycling room.

"The site is ideally situated within 500 metres of Miranda Railway Station and the Miranda commercial centre providing shopping, retail, commercial and community services located north of the subject sites," the DA said.
A pre-DA lodgement meeting was conducted with Sutherland Shire Council in June 2025 after which changes were made to the plans.
The Land and Environment Court has also approved a five-storey development at the top of Jannali Shopping Centre, which will include a childcare centre for about 59 children and 11 staff members.

The project at 544 - 546 Box Road, on the corner of Roberts Street, will also have retail spaces, a medical centre, commercial premises and four apartments, with basement parking.
Among proposed centres awaiting approval is a 67-place facility at 69A and 69B Gannons Road, on the western side of the street, near Kingsway at Caringbah.
Nearby, a 95-place facility is being constructed on the corner of Burraneer Bay Road and Gannons Road, adjoining Burraneer Bay Public School.
The centre, named Mini & Me, is being developed by Sutherland Shire firm D.velop.R.
