This is the second year running the Council has resolved not to increase its mayor and councillor fees.
The Local Government Remuneration Tribunal determined a 3.7 per cent increase to the minimum and maximum fees was applicable for all NSW councils from July 1.
Georges River Council is classified as a 'Metropolitan Medium' council.
This would allow the council to have adopted annual fees for the 2026/27 financial year for councillors ranging from a minimum of $16,420 to a maximum of $30,640, and for the mayor ranging from $34,870 to $81,380.
Instead, the fees for the 2026/27 financial year will remain at those adopted by the council for the 2024/25 financial year - $27,650 for councillors and $73,440 for the mayor
An increase in the mayor and councillor fees had been allocated in the council's 2026/27 draft Operational Plan.
But at last night's council meeting, chair of the council's Finance and Governance Committee, Councillor Christina Jamieson moved that there be no change in the mayor and councillor fees for the next financial year.
"That said, I believe we must formally call on the state government to implement serious structural reform regarding local government remuneration," Cr Jamieson said.
"If we want to attract high quality, dedicated individuals to public service, the current financial structure needs to change.
"At present the low fees make it difficult to attract people for the right reasons. By comparison, Queensland treats these roles in a financial way as a part-time position, rather than a minor allowance and NSW should look to follow a similar framework," she said.
