Police arrested four people and laid seven charges for traffic-related offences during a high-visibility e-bike operation in Sutherland Shire on Friday.

The seven charges were laid against 17-year-old rider, who allegedly led police in a pursuit along Elouera Road, Cronulla.

A police statement said, during the operation, four alleged illegal e-bikes were seized and 49 traffic infringement notices, 48 traffic cautions and eight transport infringements were issued.

Twelve person searches were conducted and 11 move-on directions were given.

"The operation focused on disrupting and reducing the illegal and dangerous use of non-compliant e-bikes and associated anti-social behaviour, particularly among young people around transport hubs and pedestrian malls around shopping precincts," the statement said.

"Officers from the Police Transport Command - South West, supported by officers from the Traffic and Highway Patrol Command Traffic Response Group and NSW Transport officers carried out the compliance, enforcement and education operation in the central business districts, around schools and beach areas.

"Officers also focused on improving community safety through education and engagement."

The statement said an "incident of note" occurred about 5.20pm, when Traffic Response Group police attempted to stop a 17-year-old rider of an illegal electric trail bike in Elouera Road, Cronulla.

"An officer attempted to stop the rider, who allegedly failed to comply with police directions to stop, and rode in a dangerous manner to evade police," the statement said.

"He was arrested a short time later in Mitchell Road.

"The teen was taken to Sutherland Police Station where he was charged with seven offences - drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous, negligent driving, not stop vehicle when directed to do so, unlicensed rider - first offence, use unregistered vehicle, use uninsured motor vehicle and motor bike rider (alone) not wear/secure fit approved helmet.

"He was granted conditional bail to appear at a Children's Court on Wednesday 13 May 2026.

"Further multi-agency operations under Operation E-Voltage will be conducted in the future."
