Located on the exterior wall of the Oatley RSL Sub-branch Hall at 23 Letitia Street, the mural has been created as a permanent tribute to the Anzacs who lived, served, and returned to the St George district.
The mural, by artists Adrian and Nikki Marchio of Airbrush World, shows three Oatley service personnel - Able Seaman Doug Wickens (WWII), Spitfire Pilot Officer John McDowell who was killed in action in Darwin in 1943, and Corporal William 'Billy' Wright (Vietnam War).
Mr Wright attended the ceremony with his family. Mr Wickens passed away last year at 103. His widow, Betty, 100, attended the ceremony.
Relaitves of John McDowell travelled from Grafton to attend the ceremony.
Oatley MP, Mark Coure, who attended the ceremonym said, "This powerful mural is a fitting tribute to three extraordinary local ANZAC heroes whose courage and sacrifice helped shape our nation. Their stories are now permanently honoured in the heart of our community at Oatley RSL Sub-Branch."
"I congratulate everyone involved in bringing this remarkable project to life. Oatley RSL Sub-Branch has created something truly special for our community and a powerful reminder of the price paid for the freedoms we enjoy today."
"This mural stands as a permanent statement that Oatley remembers. We honour those who served, we preserve their stories, and we ensure their sacrifice is never forgotten."
