The annual Shire Vintage and Collectables Fair will be held on Sunday June 7, during the Kings Birthday long weekend.

Run by Sutherland Rotary Club, the event will be held at the Sutherland Basketball Stadium, with plenty of parking, or you can walk from Sutherland station.

Among the treasures will be ceramics, china, pottery, glass, costume and eclectic jewellery, vintage board games and collectable card games, buttons, badges and coins, books and paintings, silverware, vintage fashion, shoes and bags, and, brass, linen and crochet, teddy bears and toys, compacts, kitchenalia, antique maps and militaria.

There will also be items for sale from The Cubby House Turners and Woodies from Oyster Bay and the Sutherland Toy Restoration Centre.

Sutherland Historical Society and the Meccano Modellers will have displays, while Rotary will have a bookstall.

Entry is $6 (children 12 and under are free) and you can come and go as you please throughout the day.

All proceeds go to local Shire projects supported by Sutherland Rotary Club.

WINTER WARMERS FESTIVAL

The crafty little village of Maianbar is presenting its 17th Winter Warmers Festival on Sunday June 21.

The festival raises funds for charities for the homeless by making and selling wonderful warm woolly items and so far has given away almost $90,000.

The tiny committee also hand-crafts a rug or throw to raffle. Last year's raffle of a knitted throw brought in $850, and sales of beanies, mittens, gloves, slippers, wraps, dog coats and toys, and home-made cakes, slices, muffins and tea and coffee made thousands more.

This year the main raffle will be two large knitted knee rugs instead of just a single quilt. Last year, too, there was a spectacular Chook Raffle - donated knitted chickens that sent visitors into a frenzy.

There will be another Chook Raffle this year, so those who missed out last time will have another chance to win one of these multi-coloured and delightful hens.

This year's charity is the Older Women's Network, which is building housing for the growing number of women in the community who find themselves homeless in later life.

The festival is free entry, is in the Maianbar Community Hall, 50 Pacific Crescent, from 10am to 2pm. Cash is king, but there will be EFTPOS available for most items.

Arriving by car: turn off the Princes Highway at the Bundeena turnoff [Farnell Drive] just north of Engadine. By ferry: from Cronulla to Bundeena then take the coast walk to Maianbar.

Meadow, a day-to-night music room, bar and bistro has opened in the former Papa J's space at the bottom of Hoyts Cronulla.

Adam and Kylie Micola, directors of Anyway Hospitality and owners of Bobbys in Cronulla, took over the premises and fitted out the 94-seat, 120-person capacity venue.

"The venue moves effortlessly from daytime dining and afternoon aperitivo through to a vibrant evenings, making it suitable for everything from casual lunch and afternoon drinks to late-night cocktails," they said.
