The work by First Nation's artist Dennis Golding is a large-scale outdoor mural installation.
It has been shaped through a series of workshops with Bayside local youth to incorporate their perspectives in a work that reflects connections to land, waterways and identity.
The aim of the artwork is to set a benchmark for Aboriginal placemaking in Bayside, celebrating First Nations culture and storytelling at a site of profound historical significance, where Aboriginal people first encountered European settlers.
The unveiling of this major new community artwork took place at Ramsgate Beach car park on Saturday, April 11.
Bayside Council mayor, Edward McDougall thanked all Bayside young people who actively contributed to the development of the monumental First Nations public artwork, describing it as a terrific focal point for Bayside's expanding arts and culture landscape.
"This innovative collaboration with the Museum of Contemporary Art has allowed us to engage with local youth in a creative way to deliver a meaningful public art project for the community," Councillor McDougall said.
Museum of Contemporary Art Australia director, Suzanne Cotter said, "MCA Australia is committed to supporting artists in shaping meaningful exchanges with communities across Sydney. C3West's On the Foreshore brings this commitment to life by connecting young people in Bayside with First Nations knowledge, creativity and generosity of artist Dennis Golding. We are proud to be working with Bayside Council to realise a project that gives concrete expression to the role of art in fostering connection, learning and cultural strength."
