Ponting and his wife Rianna had the home, which features walls of glass to maximise the views, together with "resort inspired facilities", built when he was the Australian Test cricket captain.
The couple sold the property in 2013 for $4.3 million to leading neck and head surgeon Professor Jonathan Clark and his wife Joanne, who will soon be empty nesters and are selling to downsize.
The Pontings moved to Melbourne where they recently took another step up the property ladder, paying $20.75 million for a renovated 1930s mansion in Toorak.
Brookes Partners Real Estate has listed the Burraneer trophy home, and invited expressions of interest.
"We are guiding $11 million, but because it's so unique we are not sure where it will end up," managing director Jon Brookes said.
"It's just hit the market, with the first inspections this week."
Mr Brookes said the top end of the market was "a bit insular to the economic times" of rising interest rates and cost-of-living pressures.
"When people have money, they don't miss these opportunities," he said.
"Ricky Ponting built this house and I am pretty confident it was with an open cheque book.
"These top notch properties don't come on to the market every day of the week."
Mr Brookes said other recent sales in the area at the top end of the market included 2 Binaville Avenue, Burraneer ($22 million), 25 Swan Street, Lilli Pilli ($10.85 million) and 267 Woolooware Road, Burraneer ($10.85 million).
26 Matthew Flinders Place, Burraneer is being promoted as "a masterpiece of deep waterfront luxury with world-class views".
"Commanding breathtaking and uninterrupted panoramas across Burraneer Bay, the pristine Port Hacking waterway and the Royal National Park, this extraordinary street to deep waterfront residence stands as a statement of architectural excellence, privacy and prestige," the agency says.
"This is a rare offering of scale, luxury and world-class waterfront living.
Positioned on the exclusive Burraneer Peninsula, this trophy home is in a class of its own capturing dramatic gun-barrel water views from every level, with walls of glass inviting an abundance of natural light and framing the ever-changing coastal backdrop.
"Designed to impress at every turn, this striking residence reveals expansive open-plan living and dining zones, seamlessly fusing multiple alfresco terraces for effortless entertaining.
"Refined finishes, grand proportions and a flawless indoor / outdoor connection create a home of both sophistication and comfort.
"Resort inspired facilities include full wet bar, wine cellar, home gym, state-of-the-art home cinema, infinity heated pool & spa overlooking the waterway plus cedar sauna and steam room leading to deep waterfront improvements at waters edge including private boatshed, working slip rails, winch, jetty and pontoon."
