Weeks after Santa Clara County prosecutors obtained a warrant for the arrest of 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk, the disaffected star questioned whether it exists and suggested that he has no plans to return to the Bay Area.

“On a real serious note though, can anybody tell me if I really have a warrant out for my arrest in California?” Aiyuk asked in an Instagram story (opens in new tab) posted Friday. 

“But if I got a warrant, bro, I’m gonna have to stay out here,” he said later.

The 28-year-old has not played since tearing multiple knee ligaments in 2024. In recent months, he has publicly criticized the 49ers’ management and posted videos of himself wearing Washington Commanders gear, fueling speculation that he wants to play for the NFC East team.

Last year, he stopped reporting to the team’s facility during a contract dispute. The 49ers later voided $27 million in contract guarantees.

Aiyuk added a defiant comment to the video, challenging authorities to capture him.

“They gone have to come catch me in DC,” the message said. 

The district attorney’s office obtained the warrant earlier this month for a traffic case that was filed in January. Aiyuk faces a misdemeanor speed racing charge.  

Law enforcement sources told The Standard this week that the warrant is still active. 

The case appears to stem from a video he posted in December that showed him driving along West Tasman Drive outside Levi’s Stadium, where the posted speed limit is 40 mph. The Standard has been unable to verify Aiyuk’s alleged speed. The California Post said he reached 104 mph, while the San Francisco Chronicle (opens in new tab) said he maxed out at 111 kilometers per hour.

Court records show that he has open traffic cases in Santa Clara County from 2021 and 2023.
