Forecast: High of 66, periods of bright sunshine
The city’s most joyful weekend is just getting started. Once the clock strikes five, step out for an evening of happy-hour bites, drag performances, and rainbow lasers.
4:00 p.m. Happy hour (opens in new tab) at Turtle Tower
Summer Fridays are a state of mind. Log off early and start your night at one of our favorite FiDi dining destinations, Turtle Tower. The Vietnamese restaurant (one of Ali Wong’s favorites) serves a happy-hour menu every day from 2 to 5 p.m., with appetizers, cocktails, and glasses of wine all under $8. In this economy, that’s impossible to pass up.
6 p.m. Drag show (opens in new tab) at the Merchants Exchange
Now that you’re refueled, the entertainment portion of your night can begin. As part of the final edition of “Drag Me Downtown,” a free Pride month performance series, drag queens are taking over the historic Merchants Exchange. Don’t miss a special appearance from “RuPaul’s Drag Race” alum Jax.
8 p.m. “Welcome” Pride laser kick-off celebration (opens in new tab) at Ferry Plaza
The world’s largest Pride flag is a 4.1-mile rainbow laser installation that projects down Market Street all the way to Twin Peaks. Walk over to Ferry Plaza, where a DJ, circus performers, and drag queens will provide entertainment before the lasers turn on at 9:20 p.m. They’ll be lit from sunset to sunrise all Pride weekend.
Forecast: High of 68, periods of clouds and sunshine
Before parade road closures go into effect Sunday, spend your Saturday exploring the city with vintage retail therapy and scent exploration. Close out the night with arcade games and back-to-back sets from local bands.
12 p.m. ScentFest SF (opens in new tab) at Fort Mason
Discover your new signature scent at this expo showcasing perfumers from across the globe. Whenever your nose needs a break, check out the discussions by fragrance experts.
Once you’re all sniffed out, stroll over to Van Ness and take the 49 bus south.
3 p.m. The Good Flea (opens in new tab) at Heath SF
Suffering from a bad case of the shoppies? Find your cure at this vintage market inside Heath’s showroom in the Mission. Not only will independent vendors bring their best handmade wares, but Heath fanatics can find an array of off-price and limited-edition ceramic pieces.
4:30 p.m. Wine and pie Fat Cat
You look like you could use a glass of wine. Fat Cat is San Francisco’s newest — and possibly its most fun — wine bar has landed in the former Outer Orbit space in Mission-Bernal. Expect slices of cream pie (opens in new tab) and a flower bouquet pop-up (opens in new tab) by Pomegranate Florals.
Buckle up: We’re getting back on Muni. The 24 bus will take you up Castro Street to your dinner destination.
6:30 p.m. Dinner at Esme and arcade games at Emporium
After much anticipation, NoPa’s newest French bistro, Esme, is open for a cozy dinner following your busy day of shopping. Put the extensive wine list, pasta, and tuna tartare to the test before walking three blocks to the always-fun Emporium Arcade Bar (opens in new tab).
9 p.m. Bay Pride Amplified! (opens in new tab) at The Independent
If you’re looking to keep the night going after Emporium, pop next door to The Independent for a lineup curated by the organizers of Outside Lands. Local bands Pillowprince, Medscool, and Cardboard People take the stage with some seriously mosh-worthy music.
Forecast: High of 72, mostly sunny
The liveliest Pride events fall on Sunday, which is poised for gorgeous weather. Grab your friends and take part in San Francisco history during the sprawling parade, lively Civic Center celebrations with dozens of performers, and parties that will make this year’s Pride one to remember.
10:30 a.m. Pride Parade (opens in new tab) on Market Street
Did you know that San Francisco hosted its first Pride parade in 1972 (opens in new tab) with 15,000 spectators? Now the flagship celebration draws upward of 1 million people downtown. Arrive early, bring plenty of water, and watch the city come alive with color.
12 p.m. SF Pride celebration (opens in new tab) at Civic Center
Where the parade route ends, a giant celebration begins. Soak up Sunday’s rare sunshine and delight in acts across six stages, including Kamaiyah and Stephan Jenkins of Third Eye Blind. Stick around until the late afternoon to scream-sing “Potential Breakup Song” with headliners Aly & AJ.
If you’re tapped out, hop on the J train at Van Ness and Market to Dolores Park and take a well-deserved nap in the setting sunshine. If not, head to SoMa for the weekend’s finale.
7 p.m. Pride afters with Juanita MORE! (opens in new tab) at Audio
The San Francisco queen of drag hosts her final event of the month with DJs David Harness, Tedd Patterson, and Poundcake until 12 a.m. at Audio to close out a weekend for the books. Do your future self a favor and call out of work Monday; you’re going to need at least 24 hours to recover from the nonstop partying.
