Ron Conway gifts a garden for Nancy Pelosi at new Obama P...

A gaggle of celebrities and tech execs gathered Friday at the home of Ron and Gayle Conway to give the soon-to-retire Rep. Nancy Pelosi her flowers — quite literally.

Sources tell The Waggle the Conways hosted an intimate soiree to announce the dedication of a garden and pavilion in Pelosi’s name at the Obama Presidential Center in Chicago. Opening this summer, the garden is a gift from the Conways, who have long maintained a close relationship with the speaker emerita.

The guest list for Friday’s gathering was a who’s who of big-time Democratic supporters, including Airbnb CEO Brian Chesky, Google President Ruth Porat, venture capitalist Brook Byers, and musicians Will.i.am and MC Hammer. Pelosi’s daughter Christine, who followed her mother into politics, and the Conways’ sons, Ron Jr., Danny, and Topher, were also in attendance, as was UCSF Chancellor Sam Hawgood

Stanlee Gatti provided floral arrangements like miniature gardens; power lunch favorite Quince provided catering.

Pelosi announced in November that she would retire at the end of her term, after nearly 40 years in Congress representing San Francisco. She has enjoyed a close relationship with Conway, a mega-donor who last month revealed he had been diagnosed with a rare form of cancer. The two most recently worked together to fundraise for Prop 50.

The Obama Presidential Center, which took nine years and $850 million to build, opens June 19. Its brutalist, 180-foot central tower has raised eyebrows, earning it the nickname “the Obamalisk.” In addition to the garden, the center boasts a museum, a playground, a sledding hill, and a branch of the Chicago Public Library. It will also serve as headquarters for the Obama Foundation, the former president’s nonprofit, focused on training young leaders.
