The Inaugural 11ty International Symposium on Making Web ...
2024-05-04 · via CloudCannon Blog

If you're passionate about modern web technologies, development and performance (and like slightly overwrought symposium names), we have an exciting (free) event for you.

CloudCannon, the official CMS partner of Eleventy, is proud to sponsor the 11ty International Symposium on Making Web Sites Real Good on Thursday May 9 from 8am PDT / 10am CDT / 11am ET / 3pm UTC. It’s a full day of content centered around Eleventy, web performance, and creative IndieWeb projects.

I'm looking forward to joining Eleventy creator (and CloudCannon’s resident Builder for the Web) Zach Leatherman, host Mike Neumegen, and diving into the chat with more than 1400 web craftspeople for the day!

Personally, I’m really excited to be speaking as well. Together with Liam Bigelow, I'll be sharing the process of setting up a series of interconnected static websites on CloudCannon. We'll talk through using Site Mounting to share common components across multiple sites, and creating a shared content lake via the static API generator Flatlake, so multiple sites can access content from each other.

What to expect Direct link to this section

This conference isn't just for seasoned developers — whether you're new to Eleventy or have been building performant static sites with it for years, there's something for everyone. Here's what you can expect:

🎤 Inspiring talks: Learn from a range of experts as they share their insights, tips, and best practices for using Eleventy, optimizing web performance, and pushing the boundaries of creativity on the web. Check out the conference site for an up-to-date schedule of speakers and topics.

👥 Community connections: Via Twitch and YouTube chat, connect with people who share your passion for Eleventy and the open web. Share ideas, ask questions, and engage with the live speakers throughout the day.

Best of all, the Symposium is completely free to attend! Simply register at conf.11ty.dev to secure your shiny hypercard-enabled ticket, and join us for a day of learning, networking (chatting with cool people), and inspiration.

(If you can’t make it on the day, don’t worry — all the talks will be recorded and made available on conf.11ty.dev, and we’ll make sure to share them far and wide as well.)

Why CloudCannon loves 11ty Direct link to this section

When we shifted CloudCannon.com from Jekyll to 11ty in March 2023, we knew we’d found the right SSG for us. We saved minutes each build, and our Core Web Vitals scores took an immediate jump as well. More than that, we realized that CloudCannon and 11ty are incredibly well aligned in our goals — we both see the value in a simpler, more modern web, where sites are built using efficient tooling.

Luckily, when we talked to Zach about joining CloudCannon as our first Dev Advocate / Builder for the Web, he agreed! And with more development time for Eleventy — now officially sponsored by CloudCannon — the outcome has been a net positive for the community as well.

And with a little inside advice along the way, we’ve also made sure that CloudCannon is already ready for Eleventy v3.0!

If you’ve thought about making the switch to 11ty as well, why not check out the inaugural 11ty International Symposium on Making Web Sites Real Good?

See you there!
