On May 16th, 2026, I attended the 2026 Wild and Scenic Film Festival at Smithwick Theatre at Foothill College hosted by Peninsula Open Space Trust (POST). There are falconers and their falcons attending in the booth, so I brought my camera to take some photos of the falcons and the event. My major goal was to test if Sony FE 16-35mm F2.8 GM II is competent for wildlife photography at close distance. It turns out that it can provide details of the falcons if I stay close. However, the details are still not enough, because even though I stood very close to the falcons, they only occupied a small portion of the frame. Therefore, the conclusion is, we should avoid using Sony FE 16-35mm F2.8 GM II for wildlife photography, even at close distance. My Tamron 50-400mm F/4.5-6.3 Di III VC VXD is quite suitable for photographing the falcons in this situation.
