The Rainbow is Me
is an illustrated children's book that explores mindfulness, emotional awareness, and self-expression through the colors of the rainbow. Written by Katie Corrigan Hanna, the story invites young readers to discover different emotions, strengths, and aspects of their identity, with each color representing a unique stage in their personal journey.
As both the Illustrator and Art Director, I was responsible for developing the book's visual language, from the overall creative direction and color storytelling to the character design, cover artwork, and interior illustrations and typography treatment. The challenge was to transform abstract concepts such as confidence, calmness, compassion, and self-discovery into engaging visual experiences that children could easily understand and connect with.
To make these ideas more tangible and relatable, each color and emotional concept is represented by a unique child character. Every character wears a distinctive hat inspired by the feeling or personal quality they embody, creating a memorable visual system that helps readers recognize and connect with each theme throughout the story.
Through vibrant palettes, expressive imagery, and symbolic storytelling, the artwork creates an immersive world that encourages curiosity, reflection, and emotional growth. The result is a visually rich and accessible book that helps children embrace the full spectrum of their emotions while celebrating their individuality.
