Last year 2025 I was approached by art agency, Pistachio Kernel company limited https://www.pistachio-k.com/ to create 6 artworks for Cullinan Harbour (Kai Tak) property in Hong Kong, build by Sun Hung Kai Real Estate Development Company Limited.
For this particular project, I was invited to create a series of artworks centered around the theme of water, with the Lotus plant as the central subject. When asked about the desired atmosphere, the response was clear and intentional: calm and relaxing.
The choice of the Lotus, deeply rooted—both symbolically and literally—in slow-moving rivers and deltas, felt like a natural extension of the project. The plant itself, rising from water, is already a living metaphor for serenity. To evoke this sense of calm, I focused not only on the iconic blossoms of the Lotus but also on its leaves—circular in form, soft in presence, and symbolic in essence. The circle, one of the oldest and most universal symbols, represents eternity, unity, protection, and the infinite cycles of life. In using the round leaves as visual anchors, I aimed for the compositions to speak quietly but profoundly.
Color played a crucial role. Lotus leaves can shift from gentle, luminous greens to deeper, water-toned bluish hues—an ideal palette for a water-themed atmosphere. To enhance the sensation of weightlessness and stillness, I deliberately avoided depicting stems. This decision allowed the flowers and leaves to appear as if gently floating in space, just as they do on water.
When working with plant life, I’m always struck by the sheer intricacy and intelligence embedded in their forms. Most people admire flowers from a distance, but I feel privileged to reveal their hidden architectures—the subtle lines, textures, and rhythms that often go unnoticed. My work is an invitation to look closer, to appreciate the complexity that exists within the quiet beauty of nature.
In the end, each artwork is the result of a quiet collaboration: between theme and material, nature and architecture, vision and time.
