Domain investors are responsible for nearly every transaction this year, and one is responsible for over 40% of transactions.

Slovenia’s .si country code domain has suddenly become popular with domain investors.
Some think the ccTLD could be used as short for “superintelligence”, an artificial intelligence term.
While there has been talk about this for some time, a recent slate of sales suggests this idea is picking up steam… with domain investors.
I analyzed the 35 .si domains NameBio shows as sold from January through June 9 this year.
Only two domain names stand out as end user purchases:
Recursive.si $20,000 – Recursive is an AI company that specifically mentions super intelligence on its website. Its main website is recursive.com.
Military.si $1,795 – The company behind the military supply store Militaria.pl acquired this domain.
Of the remaining domains, 12 point to Afternic landers and nine point to Spaceship landers.
Reviewing Whois records, nine of this month’s 13 sales were to a single domain investor in China. That same investor bought two domains earlier this year, meaning one investor accounts for 43% of public sales this year.
Another five were purchased by a Singapore investor who uses the domain premiumdoms.io for an email address.
I count 16 buyers responsible for this year’s public domain sales.
Are these buyers early? I’m not going to pass judgment on the future of .si, but I’ll note two things:
- All successful TLDs became successful because end users chose to use them. They made this decision on their own, and others copied them. Domain investors can’t will companies into using .si domains, or any TLD for that matter.
- It’s interesting that some people on X keep promoting .si, saying it’s the new hot thing and not to miss out. If they really thought that, wouldn’t they be busy snapping up domains instead of telling other people about the opportunity? A TLD isn’t like cryptocurrency; touting it doesn’t make the TLD grow. Unless, of course, you want to sell out to other domain investors.
