Campfire Audio’s New Chimera In-Ear Monitors Debut At CanJam Singapore
Mark Sparrow · 2026-05-14 · via Forbes - Consumer Tech
Campfire Audio Chimera Black

The shell of each of the Chimera's earpiece is machined from billet magnesium and finished with a PVD coating chosen which offers strength and reduces weight, as well as supporting the performance of the integrated bone conduction driver.

CAMPFIRE AUDIO

Boutique earphone manufacturer Campfire Audio has announced the launch of its latest in-ear monitor, which uses a hybrid array of dynamic, balanced armature, electrostatic and bone conduction driver technologies in a single design.

The result is the Chimera, a pair of IEMs designed to offer a highly detailed and physically engaging sound. Chimera will be unveiled publicly at CanJam Singapore, which takes place from May 16 to 17, 2026.

At the core of Chimera is a nine-driver array that uses four distinct technologies, with each contributing to a different aspect of the sonic performance. The driver architecture includes a newly developed 10mm True-Glass dynamic driver, which provides the low and low/mid frequencies.

The new Chimera IEM from Campfire Audio has an array consisiting of nine drivers made up of dynamic, balanced armature, electrostatic and bone-conduiction technology.

Electrostatic Super-Tweeters

A dual-diaphragm balanced armature serves up the midrange detail, while two dedicated high-frequency balanced armatures provide clarity and articulation. Extending further into the upper range are four electrostatic super-tweeters, designed to add air and precision to high-frequency content.

MORE FOR YOU

For the first time in an IEM design from Campfire Audio, the Chimera uses bone conducting technology embedded directly into the Chimera’s CNC-machined magnesium shell. Campfire says this enables low frequencies to be experienced both acoustically and physically, adding a sense of weight and impact that complements the rest of the Chimera’s driver system.

Supporting the configuration are a series of internal acoustic elements, including an embedded pressure valve that regulates the flow of air behind the dynamic driver. There is also a final-stage Master Track tuning damper integrated into each earpiece’s nozzle. Together with Campfire’s precision acoustic routing and spatial tuning, the components are designed to balance output across the frequency spectrum while maintaining cohesion between the different driver types.

The Chimera's cable consists of four high-purity copper conductors alongside two 50/50 copper and silver-plated copper conductors.

CAMPFIRE AUDIO

A New Horizon

“Chimera is the most advanced in-ear monitor we’ve developed at Campfire so far,” says Ken Ball, Campfire Audio’s founder. “It reflects a new horizon in the performance of Campfire products and expands on what is possible from compact, portable audio systems. It brings together a range of technologies and engineering techniques to create an experience that truly deepens the listener’s connection to music.”

Chimera’s exterior reflects the complexity of its internal design. Combining a lightweight construction with selected materials, the shell of each earpiece is machined from billet magnesium and finished with a PVD coating chosen for its strength and reduced weight, as well as its ability to support the performance of the integrated bone conduction driver.

The faceplate on each earpiece features a carbon fiber-brass Damascus construction, with layers of brass are folded into carbon fiber and CNC-machined to produce a distinct and patterned surface. Each earpiece has subtle variations in its finish, giving every pair of Chimera a unique appearance with a shifting luster as light moves across its surface. Additional details include a machined brass nozzle that has an integrated mesh screen, custom brass fasteners for reinforcement and standard 2-pin connectors.

CAMPFIRE AUDIO

Chimera ships with a full suite of accessories, including the ALO Audio Valence-6 cable, marking the reintroduction of the ALO Audio brand. The cable is designed to offer a new level of performance and synergy with Chimera and consists of four high-purity copper conductors alongside two 50/50 copper and silver-plated copper conductors.

Pricing & Availability:

Campfire Audio’s Chimera is expected to begin shipping in June 2026 with a price tag of $7,500. Pre-sale begins May 16, 2026, with limited initial quantities available. The package includes a black leather zippered case, a two-pocket mesh bag, a microfiber cleaning cloth, an IEM cleaning tool and a selection of ear tips in different sizes made from High and Clear traction silicone, standard silicone and Marshmallow foam.
