The FIFA World Cup is just weeks away and carrier AT&T has just announced what it calls a unique travel package. It comes in the form of an eSIM which lasts between one day (for U.S. only) or for longer periods up to 30 days which work in the U.S., Canada and Mexico — all three countries where the games are being played.

AT&T was the first major carrier to offer short-term packages for international visitors.
“People just want to be connected anywhere, anytime – period,” the company said when it made the announcement. The deal includes what’s described as unlimited data, though unlimited talk and text are described as coming soon. The deal also includes 5GB of hotspot access.
There’s another benefit to non-US customers, with what’s called Turbo Live by AT&T. This uses the “VIP” connection in U.S. stadiums for what’s claimed to be a high-priority data boost for smoother live streaming (though, honestly, if you’re in the stadium, focus on the game in front of you, please) as well as more mundane endeavors such as being able to snag a signal so you can book a rideshare afterwards. Note that you need the right hardware for this, specifically a 5G-capable phone.
AT&T says it has the largest wireless network in North America, which should be useful for visitors.
It works by the user downloading the Connect on Demand by AT&T on the App Store on iPhone or Google Play on Android. The phone must be 5G-capable, have an international phone number and be carrier-unlocked.
That last detail is important. In the U.K., for instance, most phones are bought on contract and while all are now unlocked, older phones may still be locked to a provider. Since the phone here must be carrier-unlocked, please check this detail in advance, to avoid disappointment.
On arrival in the States, users can purchase the eSIM to activate the service. As ever with eSIMs, you will need a Wi-Fi connection to get the service going.
Pricing starts at $3.99 for a one-day pass, for the U.S. only, $15.99 for seven days, $25.99 for 15 days and $40.99 for 30 days. If you want to have a pass that works in Canada and Mexico as well, though, the prices are $24.99 for seven days, $39.99 for 15 days and $59.99 for 30 days.
