Managing Director of Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Ltd. (KPTCL) Ram Prasath Manohar said on Wednesday that the 400 kV power substation project coming up at Kadandale of Moodbidri taluk in Dakshina Kannada will be completed by July 15, 2026.

Once commissioned, the substation will provide uninterrupted, high-quality power to coastal districts including Dakshina Kannada and Udupi, he said.

Speaking after reviewing the progress of the project by visiting the site, he said that the work of the 400 kV power line in Kadandale village had been stalled for the last three years owing to land disputes. All obstacles have been successfully overcome owing to the continuous efforts of Energy Minister K.J. George and Additional Chief Secretary of the Energy Department Gaurav Gupta.

He said Mangaluru is a major industrial hub of the State and uninterrupted power supply is essential. “This substation will provide permanent relief from the voltage fluctuation and low voltage problem faced during the rainy season. Also, if there is a technical fault in any station, it will be easy to take the load alternately through this substation and reconnect the power immediately. This will provide quality power to the major coastal districts,” Mr. Manohar said.

Meanwhile, a statement from Mr. George said: “Our government’s top priority is to ensure continuous power supply for the industrial growth of the coastal region and to people. There was a delay in laying the 400 KV line owing to some legal complications. The department took special care to remove the obstacles in this project. The Kadandale substation will ensure the best quality power facility to Mangaluru and Udupi region.”

Continuous review was conducted at the departmental level to resolve the land disputes faced by the project and a quick and appropriate solution was found. KPTCL has been instructed to complete the work within the stipulated time and dedicate it to public service, said Mr. Gupta.
