Attacking the Congress for “betraying” the DMK in Tamil Nadu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said the “power-hungry’ Congress in the greed for power has backstabbed the DMK for power”.

“Congress had a relationship with DMK for 25 years to 30 years. The 10 years of Congress rule before 2014 was due to DMK’s guarantee. DMK was always working for the good of the Congress and on several occasions it had bailed the Congress out of trouble,” the Prime Minister said while addressing a BJP rally at HAL Airport here on Sunday.

“Congress’ identity now is of a parasite party. In the first opportunity, it will betray even its allies. It (Congress) needs another party to piggy back to remain relevant,” the Prime Minister said. “As election results were different in Tamil Nadu, the Congress found opportunity to backstab the DMK. Parasitic Congress needs another party to retain identity,” he said.

Accusing the Congress and allies of being ‘arrogant’, he said: “They blame the entire world for their defeat….(they) dislike Constitution, democracy, constitutional procedures and court. I have not seen any mainstream political party doing it. They have drowned in so much of disappointment that apart from abuse, they are not left with any agenda.”

He said: “We are in power for 12 years and in 21 regions, BJP/ NDA governments have been formed. We work on the mantra of development. Look at Congress that had over 400 seats in Parliament 40 years ago. In the last three elections, there are not even reaching 100 seats.”

Terming the result of recent elections as a ‘historic event’ that will drive the direction of politics in the country, Mr. Modi said: “At the time of global instability, Indian voters have sent out the message for stability. They have sought speed. They have rejected scam, but sought solution. They have voted for a party with nationalistic vision.” He also termed the Congress as ‘anti-women’ for opposing the women reservation Bill.

Mocks govt. formation efforts

Mocking the Congress for the delay in forming the government in Kerala, Mr. Modi said: “In Tamil Nadu the process was on. In Keralam, they have got majority. At least form the government there. The Congress’s ecosystem is silent on Keralam. They are unable to find a solution – whether to have a two and half years (power sharing) or five Chief Ministers for five years.” He said what had happened on leadership issue in Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan was playing out in Karnataka. It was the turn of Keralam now. He said that in Himachal Pradesh, the Congress government does not have money to pay salary to its employees and in Telangana farmers are forced to commit suicide. “Wherever the Congress government is there, the treasury is being looted or there is fight over the loot,” he alleged.

Mr. Modi said: “For BJP, public service is paramount, and that is why 25 crore poor people have come out of poverty. Our model is of good governance that is why BJP is re-elected.” On growth of BJP, he said: “BJP had three seats in West Bengal two elections ago, and today it has managed to come to power with over 200 seats. In Keralam, we have gone up from one to three seats. When we reach three, that day is not far away when BJP/ NDA will grow beyond three seats to form the government.”

Calls for patience

Urging citizens of the country to remain patient, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said: “West Asia conflict has thrown challenges. War is impacting globally and India is also getting influenced. I am urging the people that as the country is expanding on capabilities, we have to expand our patience too. Together we have to conserve our resources and protect the interest of the country. Recalling challenging times during COVID-19, he said: “Such challenges can be met with unity.”
