The Medical College police on Friday (May 8) arrested three persons for the alleged abduction, assault, and robbery of a youth hailing from Mankavu. The accused were identified as Mohammed Shakkeel, 30, of Kolathara, Ageesh, 31, of Kunnamangalam, and Abhiram, 24, of Beypore.

According to police sources, the incident leading to the arrest of the three occurred on April 4 when Vishnu, the complainant, was travelling in his car in Kozhikode city. When he reached Puthiyapalam, the three accused, who were known to him, reportedly intercepted the vehicle and forcibly opened the door. They later allegedly snatched the car key from him and drove the vehicle to an apartment near Kozhikode beach.

Police sources said the accused threatened Vishnu with a knife and robbed him of his mobile phone, silver ring, and a purse containing ₹10,500. They also allegedly forced him to reveal the Google Pay PIN number on his phone. They later abandoned him near Puthiyapalam, where he was allegedly abducted and fled with his car, the police said.

Police officers from Medical College station said the third accused, Abhiram, was involved in a series of criminal cases registered at various police stations in Kozhikode city. He had earlier been detained under the Kerala Anti-Social Activities (Prevention) Act and lodged in Kannur Central Jail. Mohammed Shakkeel, the first accused, was also involved in various criminal cases related to substance abuse and anti-social activities.
