The cyber crimes wing of the Cyberabad Police arrested 10 accused in connection with five cybercrime cases detected between May 6 and May 14 in a coordinated crackdown on interstate cyber fraud networks operating across India.

Officials said the four arrests were linked to a ‘digital arrest’ fraud, four were related to three trading fraud cases, and two in the coordinated 'Operation Crackdown'.

In the ‘digital arrest’ case alone, fraudsters cheated a victim of ₹60 lakh by impersonating officials from the Anti-Terrorist Squad and threatening legal action through fabricated allegations involving money laundering and terrorism related activities. The victim was coerced into transferring money in multiple instalments through repeated video calls and fake documents including her arrest orders, NIA case records and RBI verification notices.

The arrested accused have been identified as Shaik Rehna Begum, Alajangi Ravi, Mohammad Jaffar, Kolla Venkata Atchuta Rao, all from Andhra Pradesh. Police said the accused played a key role in opening and supplying bank accounts used to route defrauded money and receiving commission for facilitating transactions on behalf of the cybercriminal network.

In addition to the arrests, the police reported processing of 514 refund orders in 64 cases through court intervention, amounting to ₹1,59,20,852 being returned to victims.

Authorities have issued a public advisory warning citizens against responding to calls from unknown individuals claiming to be law enforcement officials and reiterated that government agencies never conduct investigations via phone or video calls, nor do they place individuals under 'digital arrest'.
