Detaining a 25 year-old man on suspicion on Thursday, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel of Southern Railway attached to Mangaluru RPF Post found that the person was in possession of 93.5 gm unaccounted golden jewellery worth about ₹13 lakh.

They later found that the jewellery was stolen from a house in Pavaratty Police limits in Thrissur district, Kerala, on May 6. RPF in a communique gave the name of the accused as Ashif P.H., 25, hailing from Kanhangad Post, Hosdurg, Kasargod District. He was handed over to the Pavaratty Police along with the valuables on Friday.

A communique here said RPF inspector Manoj Yadav while conducting confidential watch against ToPB (theft of passenger belongings) offenders along with assistant sub-inspectors K. Saju and K. Devarajan, head constables K. Rajan and Radhakrishnan and constable C. Abbas in Mangaluru Central Station on May 7, noticed a person moving on platform nos. 2/3 in a suspicious manner. He was detained and during checking of his shoulder bag, unaccounted gold ornaments were found.

On inquiry, the person disclosed his identity and admitted of stealing the gold ornaments from a house in Thrissur. RPF found Pavaratty Police had registered a case on May 6 regarding house-breaking and theft of about 10 sovereigns of gold ornaments.

Upon being informed, the station house officer, Pavaratty Police along with personnel arrived at Mangaluru RPF Post and took custody of the accused and recovered the jewellery on May 8.

RPF said the accused was facing as many as 12 criminal cases in different police limits in Kerala and non-bailable warrants were pending against him.
