Good night!
Australia remains unbeaten, India knocked out: Full list of records broken in IND v AUS, Women’s T20 World Cup 2026
Harmanpreet Kaur: We didn't play well against good teams
[On batting first] We got a decent total on the board, I thought we were a little short until last over. We didn’t play well against good teams. They bowled really well, we didn’t get what we expected. [On the tournament] We didn’t play well against good teams. Against the best teams always your best comes, we’ve been pushed to get to that level. We were in the game for quite some time, we didn’t play to our standards. [On the future] We need to see how we go against good teams, we have to reset everything. There are some good tournaments coming up, we’ll give our best.
Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 semifinals: Qualified teams, schedule, venues, timings
Semifinals confirmed
The semifinals lineup is now confirmed. Australia and South Africa have qualified from Group 1, and England and West Indies from Group 2. Here is the semifinal lineup:
Australia wins by six wickets
A perfect group stage comes to an end for Australia, it’s five wins from five courtesy of two magnificent fifties from Ellyse Perry and Ash Gardner. They were immaculate, making an tricky run-chase look ever-so-easy and timing their acceleration absolutely perfectly. In the end, they made 171 look fairly small and completed the highest chase in Women’s T20 World Cup history.
India started well, dismissing Georgia Voll early on, and for the first half of the innings India seemed to be in the game. Then came Perry and Gardner, and before long it was all over. India’s tournament is done, the wait for a T20 World Cup title goes on.
India knocked out of Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 after losing to Australia
AUS 172/4 (19)
Shree Charani to bowl what you suspect is the final over of the match with five to win. Marizanne Kapp has a wide smile on her face in the crowd. Gardner miscues a full toss for one. Perry tries to over mid-off, and chipped to the fielder! It’s probably too late now, end of a magnificent innings from her.
Ellyse Perry c Shafali Verma b Shree Charani 56 (38b)
Georgia Wareham is the new batter, she drills it down the ground, and that, as they say, is that! India is out of the T20 World Cup 2026, it’s all over!
AUS 166/3 (18)
17 needed from 18 balls, Australia holds the advantage now. Deepti to bowl, two singles start the over. Out comes the lap scoop from Ash Gardner, and Yastika has to chase it! She hauls it back in, but the batters have run four anyways! Exceptional athleticism from the pair. Mowed across the line for one more. Another single to leg, Australia walking this now.
Gardner walks down, and drills a four through cover. She has a fifty from 28 balls, what a magnificent knock from Australia’s vice-captain!
AUS 154/3 (17)
34 from 24 is the equation now. Renuka to bowl out, Perry sends a single to long-on. Gardner batters it back to the bowler, and Perry is scrambling to get back! Renuka didn’t let go of the ball, and Perry might have been out if she did!
Gardner walks down, and absolutely leathers it over long-off for another six! Massive blow! Single down the ground to follow. Perry picks it up over the legside....and it’s four more! Massive wide from Renuka...actually did that land on the cut strip? No it didn’t, so it’s a free hit! Perry walks at the free hit, and absolutely leathers it straight for four! That is a 33-ball fifty for Ellyse Perry, Australia’s best has stood up when it really matters! A simply brilliant knock!
AUS 137/3 (16)
Shafali again, and Gardner picks the gap for four! Short again, pulled for one. Perry cuts, and Kranti spills it for four at point! Quick single to cover now. Short again, Gardner pulls it for one. One more to Perry to end the over, 12 off the over.
AUS 125/3 (15)
Shree Charani again, and Gardner loops it just over short fine for one! Perry takes one more. Gardner winds up.....and it’s over square leg for six! Just short of Radha at deep cover for one more. Wider...and Perry slices it between point and short third for four! And to make matters worse, it’s a no-ball! Massive full toss, but drilled to a fielder for one. Single to end the over, 16 from it.
AUS 109/3 (14)
Deepti for her third, Gardner takes one. Perry drills a full toss to long-on for one. Gardner picks the gap for two. Drilled straight for one. Perry chips it to the left of long-on for two. Lucky escape, massive full toss down leg and Perry picks out the fielder.
Seven off the over.
AUS 102/3 (13)
Radha again, Gardner advances and drills it over extra-cover for four! Nice shot. Onto the back foot, and launches it over the legside for six more! Good batting from Gardner. Well fielded by Radha off her own bowling. Loopy full toss, drilled to the deep cover fielder. Cut through the field from Perry now! Slapped past the cover fielder for two more, 17 from that over.
Good over from an Australia perspective.
AUS 85/3 (12)
Shafali gets a third, Perry takes one straight. Chipped to leg for one by Gardner. Thick outside-edge to short third for one. Really slow so far from Shafali, Gardner takes one more. Perry cuts through the infield for two.
AUS 79/3 (11)
Right, 99 needed from the back 60, India slightly ahead here for my money. Radha to bowl for the first time today, Perry cuts for a quick single. Gardner plinks it to cover. Advances and chips it to long-on for one. Perry clearly looking to back away against the left-arm spin here. Now she advances, and drills it through covers for four! Sweeper goes out, and Perry takes a single to that fielder.
Deepti, another record broken!
AUS 72/3 (10)
WICKET! Deepti sends back Mooney, who holes out to the safe hands of Radha Yadav. This is also Deepti’s 356th international wicket, leapfrogging the great Jhulan Goswami on the charts of most scalps across formats in women’s cricket. Deepti never ceases to amaze.
Mooney 22 (20) c Radha b Deepti
Ashleigh Gardner the new batter at the crease. Meanwhile, Perry shifts across and goes big down the ground but the shot falls just short of Radha.
AUS 68/2 (9)
Charani continues. FOUR! Perry drives it through cover and a fielder gets a touch, but too much power behind that smack. Great comeback from the spinner after that boundary.
AUS 62/2 (8)
Deepti Sharma into the attack. Meanwhile, Ellyse Perry has come to bat.
Uppish but FOUR! Perry, on the backfoot, sends the ball high and far over at the mid wicket region, between the gap in the deep.
AUS 54/2 (7)
Shree Charani, the highest wicket-taker of this edition so far, comes into the attack. Top edge, and a ricochet off the body, and the ball is up in the air but Richa is a bit far.
Third time in a row now Litchfield has gone for the reverse hit.
WICKET! Litchfield walks back after holing out to Smriti over at long off. And it’s Charani who bags another scalp.
Litchfield 24 (25) c Smriti b Charani
AUS 49/1 (6)
Shafali continues. And Litchfield finally releases that pressure which was building with a SIX down the ground!
The reverse hit is out but Litchfield doesn’t get it cleanly. A two is taken. That’s the end of the PowerPlay and the Aussies are going eight an over so far. Drinks to be taken.
AUS 37/1 (5)
Renuka with her third over. Mooney tries to clear the boundary over the extra cover region but Kranti runs in to save a couple. She finds the boundary now as Mooney plays it across the line, over mid wicket, for a FOUR!
CLOSE! A slower full toss from Renuka at that leg stump and Mooney sweeps it just over a jumping N. Shree Charani at backward square leg for another FOUR!
AUS 25/1 (4)
Shafali Verma, who’s been opening the bowling for India for the past game or so, comes into the attack in the fourth over. Shafali has Litchfield under the pump, five dots in this over.
AUS 24/1 (3)
Renuka continues. Bowling to Mooney. CLOSE! Litchfield, similar to Smriti in that first innings, almost plays it onto the stumps. Dropped! Litchfield tries to ramp but can’t, and Richa is unable to take the catch.
AUS 23/1 (2)
Kranti Gaud, who’s back in the team after two matches, with her first over. Australia resorting to ones and twos so far, quick as ever between the wickets.
FOUR! Litchfield comes down the track and pulls through mid wicket for a boundary. And she follows it up with another FOUR down the track!
AUS 11/1 (1)
Renuka Singh Thakur opens the bowling and she’s welcomed by Georgia Voll with a FOUR! Too much width and the batter sends it racing through the offside.
Next ball, a lot of swing on offer and a huge shout for an lbw! Review taken.
GONE! Voll has to walk back after India wins that review!
Voll 4 (2) lbw Renuka
The broadcast turns to the South African players, who have their hands on their mouths in disbelief.
Phoebe Litchfield, back from injury after missing three games, comes to bat. Second ball, she takes a two after Renuka bowls it wide down the leg. One more wide from the pacer. First runs for Mooney as she takes a two.
Meanwhile, Australia has qualified!
The Aussies can perhaps breath a bit easier as the run rate shabang (I’m a bit weak in math, Rajdeep here) means that the six-time champion has advanced to the semifinals.
ICYMI: Jemimah retired out during India vs Australia Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 match
Australia needs 171 to win
Right, what a curious innings that was. India seemed well set for 19 overs without ever really kicking on, but a blistering final over from Harmanpreet Kaur has pushed it to a more than competitive 170 for four at the end of the innings. It was a brilliant, positive innings from the Indian skipper, who has stood up at the big moment for her side. with her fastest fifty against Australia.
170 is a strong total on this used wicket, but this Australian side bats deep and with plenty of quality. Can India defend this total? Stay with us to find out.
IND 170/4 (20)
Six balls to go, and Jemimah has been retired out for Richa Ghosh! Sophie Molineux to close out, and Richa slices the first ball for one. Harmanpreet advances, and leathers it over the ropes for six! Shot from the Indian captain! Steps out again....six again! That’s a 25-ball fifty for Harmanpreet Kaur! The Indian captain has stepped up! Goes again....and Litchfield has dropped it over the ropes for another six! She can’t believe it! Gone now! Drilled straight to Perry at mid-off, but she has done her job and how!
Harmanpreet Kaur c Perry b Molineux 56 (27b)
Deepti Sharma to face the final ball, and a thick edge runs away for four! India finishes on 170 for four! Australia gathers in a huddle in the centre of the field, and Ellyse Perry is speaking rather animatedly.
IND 147/2 (19)
Two overs left, can India reach 170? Sutherland to bowl out, Jemimah finds backward square leg for one. On the stumps, Harman picks it up behind square for four! Slower ball mistimed...short of Wareham in the deep. Drilled straight back, Sutherland fields well off her own bowling. Jemimah goes across the line...and dropped over the ropes by Wareham for six! That was a catchable chance! Jemimah pumps her fist and shouts come on as it crosses the rope. Opens up over off...and this time Carey at deep cover drops it going forward!
Two chances down in two balls from Australia, how often do you see that??
IND 134/2 (18)
Properly foot on the gas time for India now. Harmanpreet has been excellent so far today, how much more can she add to this total? Molineux to bowl, top-edged for one. Leading edge over mid-off for one, Jemimah wanted a second. Sliced for one more. Swung to deep midwicket again. Single straight for Jemi. Full toss to end the over, Harman picks the gap for two to end the over.
IND 127/2 (17)
Four to go, who bowls them for Australia? Garth to start, Jemimah miscues for one. Harman gets one to mid-off. Full toss, clubbed to deep midwicket for one. Big outside edge, and it’s four more to Harmanpreet!
One more to the offside sweeper. Jemimah picks out the same field for one.
IND 118/2 (16)
Wareham is back, Jemi calls her captain through for a quick single and there is an extra via the overthrow! Jemimah tries to sweep and gets beaten by one that keeps low! Massive shout for lbw given, but she reviews! Did that pitch outside leg? It might have, yes it has! Jemimah survives!
The South Africans look annoyed by that on the balcony, meanwhile Wareham beats Jemimah with a peach. Swept in front of square for one. Harman opens up, and gets it over off again! Four more to the Indian captain, this has been a really good knock so far. Dot to finish.
IND 111/2 (15)
Six overs to go, Sutherland to bowl her third. Jemi drills it straight for two. Pulled for one more. Flashed past point for four more, Harman is in the mood today! Single taken. Jemi pats to deep cover for one.
IND 102/2 (14)
Molineux again, Harman finds backward point. Chipped over mid-off for two. Drilled just past covers for four! Not timed fully, but got enough. Clipped to leg for one. Worked for one. Dot to end the over.
IND 94/2 (13)
Lucy Hamilton is back, Harman drives for one. Jemimah chips just wide of mid-on for one. Beaten on the cut. First four for Harman, cuts over short third for third! Worked away for one more. Jemi cuts for two, Litchfield fields well.
IND 84/2 (12)
India has picked up the pace nicely here, how much can it get? 170 would be quite competitive on this track. Wareham is back now, Smriti drives to cover. Bottom edge to short third for one. Jemimah goes for the reverse, and Smriti has been run out! Chaos in the middle! Well timed straight to short third, Smriti sets off for the single but Jemimah isn’t even looking. She realizes too late, and that’s that for Smriti.
Smriti Mandhana run out (Hamilton/Wareham) 38 (37b)
Harmanpreet Kaur in at four. Single to end the over.
IND 82/1 (11)
Annabel Sutherland is back, and she’s pinned Smriti on the pad straight away! Big shout for lbw, not given. Molineux sends it upstairs, Mooney looks unsure. Pitching outside leg, not out! Good start from Sutherland though. Advances and tries to carve it past point, Litchfield saves the boundary. Wide down leg. Jemi nudges a short ball to leg for one, she’s trying to get outside the line already.
Smriti backs away, Sutherland beats her with a slower ball. Backs away again, and gets it just past a diving Voll at mid-off! Four more. Pulled for one more.
IND 74/1 (10)
GONE! Captain Sophie Molineux hands herself the ball in the 10th over and gets timber on the first ball. It’s Shafali who tries to clear the ropes on the off side and misses.
Shafali 34 (26) b Molineux
Jemimah Rodrigues has come in to bat and instantly lap sweeps behind square for a two. One can expect more running from her. Well, and some boundaries too I guess because she has just hit a Shafali-esque shot over extra cover region for a FOUR!
IND 66/0 (9)
Gardner returns for her second over. Smriti comes down the track, makes some space, and lifts it over the mid off region but a fielder is there in the deep to restrict it to a single.
Shafali swings for the hills and almost gets bowled.
SIX! She’s been itching to score a big one for the a few balls and she unleashes a 74m-maximum, this time over the mid-wicket region.
FOUR! Shafali takes the ball on the full and sends it through extra cover between the fielders. While the ball was racing for a boundary, Shafali, ball watching, clatters into Smriti who falls down. All good between them as the over ends with 12 coming off it.
IND 54/0 (8)
Another new bowler, and it’s Annabel Sutherland with her first over. And she bowls a wide to begin with. Sutherland varying the pace well so far in this over. Brilliant over for the Aussies, conceding just five runs with Sutherland using the slower ball well.
IND 49/0 (7)
Time for leg spin as Georgia Wareham comes in right after the PowerPlay. And Smriti threads the needle through the off side for a FOUR!
Full toss but Smriti can only get a single from it.
Shafali takes a single after a couple of dots. Just six off the over.
IND 43/0 (6)
Garth returns. Last over of the PowerPlay. Shafali tries to go through the mid off region again but smacks it straight to the fielder for a dot.
FOUR! Smart batting there from Shafali, waiting for the ball and just glancing it past the short third fielder.
IND 36/0 (5)
Ellyse Perry brought in. Shafali tries to play it late past short third but there’s a fielder there. A wide and a dot to follow.
Around the wicket to her RCB teammate Smriti. FOUR! Stays a little low but the batter swivels and pulls it through square leg for another boundary.
IND 29/0 (4)
Ashleigh Gardner brought in and Shafali says hello with a smack over mid off for a FOUR! A shot which has been quite frequent in this tournament, just lifting the ball over that infield, especially in the PowerPlay.
Smriti plays her first ball against Gardner gingerly. Next ball, she comes down to send the ball past the mid off fielder and takes a single.
SIX! First maximum of the innings and Shafali does exactly that shot again! This time, it clears the ropes over mid off for a 80m six.
IND 16/0 (3)
Hamilton continues. Meanwhile watching on from the balcony is the South African team. This match will decide which sides go ahead to the last four stage.
FOUR! Smriti pulls well and the ball races through square leg. Very similar shot to what a certain Matthew Hayden was showing to Smriti when the two were having a chat a few days back. The tips have worked out?
Final ball, some width and Smriti tries to cover drive but misses.
IND 11/0 (2)
Kim Garth with her first over. Keeper up to the stumps. FOUR! Smriti glances it towards mid-wicket region. Phoebe Litchfield is in pursuit but the ball races away for the side’s first boundary of the innings.
FOUR! Back-to-back boundaries. Similar shot, this time more square of the wicket, down the hill.
IND 3/0 (1)
Shafali Verma, the ‘all-rounder’, and Smriti Mandhana out to bat first. Lucy Hamilton to open the bowling for the Aussies.
First ball, at the stumps and Smriti blocks it with a straight bat. First runs on the board as Smriti takes a single after sending the ball behind square leg.
Shafali with her first run after playing it late towards deep point. CLOSE! Smriti almost plays it onto the stumps through an inside edge, but she survives to retain strike with a single.
Anthems time
The fact that this match is a charged one can be felt through the screens too. As Mel Jones said at the toss, this does seem like a final.
Can India find runs against frugal Australia?
Australia’s leading wicket-taker in this tournament is Sophie Molineux, with just six wickets, and it has no representatives in the top 10 leading wicket-takers in the tournament.
However, in Molineux, Georgia Wareham, and Lucy Hamilton, it has the three most economical bowlers in the competition, underlining the challenge India faces today.
Will Ash Gardner bowl early?
India’s openers Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma have been perhaps the most in-form batters in this line-up this tournament, and you’d imagine India’s success today will have much to do with them.
Ash Gardner has a good record against both batters, making her an early options for the Aussies.
How can India qualify for the semifinals?
After South Africa’s victory, India now has to win its match against the Australians.
Harmanpreet Kaur and Co. have a superior Net Run Rate (+2.268) as compared to the Proteas’ +0.633. A win against the Aussies will mean Australia and India advance to the semifinals.
Australia playing XI
Beth Mooney (wk), Georgia Voll, Phoebe Litchfield, Ellyse Perry, Ashleigh Gardner, Georgia Wareham, Annabel Sutherland, Nicola Carey, Sophie Molineux (capt), Lucy Hamilton, Kim Garth
India playing XI
Shafali Verma, Smriti Mandhana, Yastika Bhatia, Jemimah Rodrigues, Harmanpreet Kaur, Richa Ghosh (wk), Deepti Sharma, Radha Yadav, Kranti Gaud, Renuka Singh, N Shree Charani.
Toss: India wins the toss and opts to bat
It’s crunch time, Harmanpreet Kaur and Sophie Molineux head to the middle. Up goes the coin, and it lands in favour of India, which will bat first! It’s an important game, we want set a total says Harmanpreet. Kranti Gaud comes in for Nandni Sharma. It’s a fresh day, and fresh mind for us. Feels like a home match.
Sophie Molineux says Australia would have bowled first. Phoebe Litchfield is back in for Alana King. Really excited, she adds.
Toss report
There’s a bit of grass on this track, meaning that there could be some help for the seamers combined with the cloud cover.
This is a used pitch, with South Africa and Bangladesh having just played 40 overs on this wicket, so it could dry out as the game progresses.
Smriti on Hayden's influence
Once again, there are shots of Smriti Mandhana having a chat with Matthew Hayden ahead of the match. A bit of cross-rival mentorship there. Smriti has previously spoken about the inspiration Hayden has provided on her game, as our reporter P.K. Ajith Kumar writes here:
The pressure is on
The first game today is officially over, South Africa has edged over the line to a four-wicket win over Bangladesh. That means the equation is simple now for India; a win gets it through, a loss and it is out.
