The MoU aims to enhance services at PHCs, CHCs, and taluk hospitals by utilising skills and resources from state medical colleges, according to Karnataka Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao

| Mangaluru, April 10

The Department of Health and Family Welfare in Karnataka has decided to enter into memoranda of understanding (MoU) with medical colleges to provide quality healthcare services at primary health centres (PHCs), community health centres (CHCs) and taluk hospitals in the state, according to Dinesh Gundu Rao, Karnataka Health and Family Welfare Minister.

Participating in a programme organised to hand over medical equipment worth ₹68.80 lakh donated by Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd to the Government Lady Goshen Hospital in Mangaluru on Friday, he said that the MoU will help improve services at PHCs, CHCs and taluk hospitals. Skills and resources available in medical colleges in the state will be used for this purpose. Medical colleges will work closely with the government to provide extra clinical and diagnostic services. This will help improve service capacity and patient care, he said.

Stating that no financial assistance or grants will be given by the government to participating medical colleges under this initiative, he said that administrative control of these health centres will remain with the government medical officers.

Only in emergency situations, patients will receive free treatment under the AB-ARK (Ayushman Bharat – Arogya Karnataka) scheme at the medical colleges under the MoU. All other cases will be referred to designated government hospitals. The government will conduct regular reviews to ensure proper implementation of the MoU, he said.

Three medical colleges in Dakshina Kannada district have agreed to provide the services under this MoU.

Under the agreement, AJ Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Centre, Mangaluru, will collaborate with Bantwal Taluk Hospital; and the Moodbidri-based Alva’s Health Centre will partner with Beltangady Taluk Government Hospital and Moodbidri CHC. Yenepoya Medical College Hospital, Mangaluru, will collaborate with Vittla CHC in Bantwal taluk under this MoU, he said.

Later, speaking to media persons, the Minister said Siddhartha Medical College in Tumakuru is likely to collaborate with the district hospital and a taluk hospital in Tumakuru disitrct under this agreement.
