Fans were surprised to open up Hulu and find a new show on their homepages. Only thing, it’s not a new title at all. It’s actually a surprise prequel episode from The Bear.

FX and Hulu have officially dropped Gary, “Co-written by Ebon Moss-Bachrach and Jon Bernthal, Gary is a flashback episode of FX's The Bear released as a surprise drop for fans. Discovered by searching for “Gary” on Hulu and Disney+, this episode follows Richard “Richie” Jerimovich and Michael “Mikey” Berzatto on a work trip to Gary, Indiana. Intimate and revealing, it illuminates the two friends’ complicated relationship, uncovering new layers of Mikey’s mental state while offering crucial insight into the man Richie is when audiences first meet him in season one — adding emotional context that reframes their story from the very beginning.”

The timing might seem surprising to some, but it’s likely that it was timed along with the 2026 Tony Award nominations, where both Ebon and Jon eligible for their performances in Dog Day Afternoon. While the show received three nominations for its technical categories, neither actor received nominations for acting nor did the production for Best Play.

Both actors and co-writers posted on Instagram alerting fans about the big news.

“This. Fucker. Slaps. I promise. Couldn’t be more proud. On Hulu now. GARY. TRUST ME. big love y’all,” Jon Bernthal wrote on his profile.

“Making this was a dream come true. Thanks to the beautiful people of Gary, Indiana and as always Chicago, Illinois. Search “Gary” in HULU to watch,” wrote Ebon Moss-Bachrach.

Fans who are looking for the episode will have to either search for it by looking up “Gary” or find it in their recommended pages. Surprisingly, it is not listed under The Bear, although a sub-menu connects the two together if fans look closely enough.

Ready to go back in time, cousin? Well, you better tune in ASAP before spoilers show up online.
