(top ticket is $118.50-not inexpensive, but these days not out of line with larger/nicer venues. My experience there for acoustic jazz is that it doesn't pay to be far out in the audience, but it may be different with an electric band...)   6:08pm

Love this tune, too. I arranged it for my college combo. But I put it in the key of C (Tony has it in B. Yikes. Improvising in B major and then B minor, beyond my band's capabilities) Avatar 🕰 Swag For Life Member 6:21pm

MsJazz has to use a CPAP machine-she didn't think she could tolerate it at first, but she sleeps much better since she got used to using it (I sleep better too-though I used to listen to more music, as I had to plug in ear headphones and a digital audio player to be able to fall asleep).
it's actually very unhealthy to persist with bad snoring, obstructive sleep apnea-over the long haul, it damages your lungs, can cause your heart to enlarge, and the adverse effects of poor sleep are many... Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:35pm

↳ DJ Peter @6:35

I think often people have trouble with it because, as you said, they fight it, decide they can't tolerate it before they even use it (MsJazz was like that, at first, but now never misses a night). But it's actually very useful, prevents some serious complications down the line... Avatar 🕰 Swag For Life Member 6:39pm
tom tom the pipers son:

↳ doctorjazz @6:33

thx for the advice dr j… it’s unclear to me how my sleep is interrupted. i don’t waken with a gasp or a snort … yeah but either way i should be using it... Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:43pm
DJ Peter: there's a whole CPAP subreddit and it mostly consists of people assuring newbies "it takes time you'll get used to it" Avatar 🕰 Swag For Life Member 6:46pm
doctorjazz:

↳ tom tom the pipers son @6:39

it actually doesn't have to be interrupted (though people often go into very light sleep, even wake up,even without sleep apnea, but they learn to put themselves right back to sleep and don't remember it). But even if you didn't wake at all, what's happening if one really has obstructive sleep apnea is that when you're sleeping, you're having multiple episodes where you actually stop breathing for a few seconds. That causes your blood oxygen to go down to levels that are unhealthy for your brain and the rest of the body, and that struggle to start breathing causes lung damage and the enlareged heart (this doesn't happen in weeks, even months, but over many years it accumulates and causes damage). Take 19—yikes! Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:40pm
DJ Peter:

↳ Listener Gregory @8:26

Van Gelder numbered all takes sequentially, so take 19 means it's the 19th performance of the session (not the 19th of that one tune).
the Blue Note discography does not give info on every take (e.g. if it's a false start or a break down, or if there's another composition that they tried but never released.)
FWIW the released version of "The Egg" was take 17. So we do know that they did complete takes of "Snap" and "Oliloqui Valley" early on, then completed "Cantaloupe Island" and "The Egg," then went back to the other two. (shrug) Avatar 🕰 8:34pm
