Things are advancing in the Stanley Cup playoffs! The second round of the NHL playoffs begins on Saturday with the Carolina Hurricanes squaring off against Metro Division foe, the Philadelphia Flyers.

How did they get here? The Hurricanes swept the Ottawa Senators, and the Flyers just won an exciting game six against the Pittsburgh Penguins on an overtime winner by Cam York. The Hurricanes have been regarded as the best team in the Eastern Conference all season, and they look to back that sentiment against a scrappy Flyers team, who happen to know Carolina very well.

The Flyers and Hurricanes played four times this regular season, with Carolina winning three of those. However, they faced off in one of the last games of the season, and Philadelphia won in a shootout. Let’s get into some of the betting markets for this contest.

Flyers vs. Hurricanes Odds

Carolina comes into this series with a lot of firepower. Sebastian Aho will lead the offensive attack, but Nikolaj Ehlers, Seth Jarvis, and Andrei Svechnikov also have the ability to put the puck in the net. Freddie Anderson will likely be the netminder for game one, as he should be well rested. The Canes haven’t played since last Saturday.

Puck drop for game one between the Hurricanes and Flyers is set for 8:00 p.m. EST.

Odds courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook, and are subject to change:

Moneyline: Carolina Hurricanes; -250 ($250 bet wins $100), Philadelphia Flyers; +205

Puck Line: Hurricanes -1.5 (+114), Flyers +1.5 (-135)

The Hurricanes covered their puck line twice against the Senators. The Flyers have covered their puck line in four of the last five games.

Total goals (5.5): Over 5.5 (-105) Under 5.5 (-115)

Prediction Time…

This is a tricky one, especially for game one. As noted, the Hurricanes haven’t taken the ice in a week for an actual game, while the Flyers are fresh off an exciting way to advance in the NHL playoffs.

I expect the Carolina offense to look alive and well, but Freddie Anderson was so good in the first round that he’s bound to come back to the mean (law of averages), so my prediction for this matchup between the Flyers and Hurricanes to start a fresh series is that there will be at least six goals scored in this game.

Carolina’s moneyline doesn’t have much value at -250, and the Hurricanes’ puck line is very enticing, but this first game could figure to be closer as both sides measure each other up.
