Tunisia has announced its full 26-player squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. It’s the seventh time the country has qualified for the FIFA World Cup. The Eagles of Carthage have never passed the group stage.

Head coach Sabri Lamouchi announced the full squad earlier today. Ellyes Skhiri is the captain and also the biggest star player in the squad. The defensive midfielder from Eintracht Frankfurt is one of the most important players.  Another key player in the squad is Hannibal Mejbri. Representing Burnley in the Premier League, the midfielder is headed to his second consecutive FIFA World Cup. Also, 21-year-old hopeful Khalil Ayari made the cut. The biggest surprise is the absence of Mohamed Ali Ben Romdhane. He finished as Tunisia’s top qualification goalscorer, famously scoring the 94th-minute winner against Equatorial Guinea that officially sealed their 2026 FIFA World Cup spot.

Qualification For The 2026 FIFA World Cup

To qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Tunisia had to take on Namibia, Liberia, Malawi, Equatorial Guinea, and São Tomé and Príncipe. Only the group winner qualified directly for the World Cup, a spot secured by Tunisia with an impressive 28 points from ten matches. On September 8, 2025, Tunisia qualified for the World Cup with still two group matches to go.

The Eagles of Carthage found a last-minute winner in their away game against Equatorial Guinea. It was Mohamed Ali Ben Romdhane who netted the match-winner and secured a spot at the 2026 FIFA World Cup for Tunisia. Ben Romdhane was also the top scorer for Tunisia during the qualifiers with a total of four goals.

2026 FIFA World Cup

Tunisia is one of the four countries in Group F. The Eagles of Carthage open their World Cup on June 14 in Guadalupe, Mexico, where they will take on Sweden. Six days later, they take on Japan in the same stadium. For their final group stage match, they have to travel to Kansas City, Missouri, to take on the Netherlands on June 25. The two group winners and the eight best third-placed teams from each group will advance to the next stage.
