Saturday night’s Game 7 between the Philadelphia 76ers and the Boston Celtics once again proved to the former team that they have something special in the former Baylor guard, VJ Edgecombe.

Amid the 76ers’ stunning comeback attempt, the Sixers’ rookie made history in Game 7.

For his first playoff series, VJ Edgecombe was exactly what the Sixers needed.

The young rookie appeared in seven games (all starts). He saw the court for 38.4 minutes per game.

The No. 3 pick in the 2025 NBA Draft shot 41.8% from the field and hit on 30.6% of his threes. He averaged 15.1 points per game, while coming down with 6.9 rebounds per game, and produced 3.0 assists per game.

That won’t be a wrap for Edgecombe’s rookie effort; the young guard will continue playing a key role for the Sixers in the second round.

At this point of the year, Edgecombe is the only top 10 rookie in his class starting on a playoff team. Three out of the top five picks (Ace Bailey, Kon Knueppel, and Cooper Flagg) are not in the playoffs. The second pick, Dylan Harper, is playing off the bench for the San Antonio Spurs.

On Monday, the 76ers will hit the court at Madison Square Garden for the start of Game 1. Edgecombe and his team will tip off at 8 PM ET.
