Watching Avengers: Endgame marked one final bittersweet moment for Marvel fans. Stan Lee’s last cameo arrived months after his death in 2018. For decades, Lee shaped superhero culture globally. His work helped turn Marvel into the entertainment juggernaut it is now. Nearly eight years later, new artificial intelligence tools will bring Lee’s voice and likeness back into the spotlight.
Stan Lee’s estate has partnered with ElevenLabs to recreate the late comic creator’s voice and image for commercial projects. The deal allows fans to hear AI-generated narrations in Lee’s voice and create digital appearances inspired by his famous Marvel cameos.
The partnership arrives as entertainment companies increasingly experiment with AI-generated voices and digital likenesses. Supporters see the technology as a way to preserve iconic figures for future generations. Critics argue it risks turning deceased celebrities into permanent commercial products.
Under the agreement, ElevenLabs will launch a “Stan Lee Book of the Month Club” through its Reader app. The project starts with Robert Louis Stevenson’s “Treasure Island.” The company plans to release 11 more audiobook adaptations over the next year.
Engineers at ElevenLabs trained the AI model using archival recordings of Lee’s professional voice work. Users will hear a digital recreation designed to capture Lee’s signature delivery and energetic personality.
The company will also place Lee’s cloned voice on its Iconic Voice Marketplace. That platform allows approved creators and businesses to license AI-generated voices for commercial and editorial projects. Chaz Rainey of Stan Lee Universe said the partnership reflects Lee’s lifelong connection with fans.
“Stan always wanted to reach fans wherever they were,” Rainey said. “People often said they could hear his voice while reading his comics. This technology helps recreate that experience.”
The deal extends beyond audio. ElevenLabs will also add Lee’s likeness to its Image and Video Marketplace. Users can generate comic panels and visual cameos featuring the Marvel legend. The move echoes Lee’s long-running tradition of appearing briefly in Marvel films.
The announcement highlights how rapidly AI tools are moving into Hollywood and publishing. ElevenLabs already works with several high-profile figures and estates. Those partnerships include Michael Caine, Liza Minnelli, and John Wayne’s estate.
ElevenLabs co-founder Mati Staniszewski recently said the entertainment industry has shown strong interest in AI-powered voice technology. He said companies must work directly with talent and estates to expand those projects responsibly.
The agreement could eventually open the door for Lee’s digital likeness to appear in advertisements, entertainment projects, and branded content. Fans may also create AI-generated comic scenes featuring Lee through approved templates.
Lee co-created many of Marvel’s most recognizable heroes, including Spider-Man, the X-Men, Iron Man, and the Fantastic Four. His influence helped define modern superhero storytelling in the United States.
For many fans, his final “Endgame” cameo felt like the closing chapter of an era. AI may now give that familiar voice and face another life on screens and speakers for years to come, whether that’s a good thing or not is strictly subjective.
