TENS OF THOUSANDS of people filled the streets of Dublin today for the capital’s annual Pride parade, as the city continues to host a packed programme of celebrations, performances and community events.
The parade got underway on O’Connell Street at 12.30pm before making its way through the city centre to Merrion Square.
This year’s theme, ‘One Story – Many Voices’, focused on the shared experiences that connect LGBTQ+ people across different backgrounds, generations and identities.
Taoiseach Micheál Martin and Tánaiste Simon Harris were among those who marched in the parade, while author and activist Philippa Ryder served as this year’s Grand Marshal.
The parade has been followed by a live event in Merrion Square titled ‘Pride Square’, a free festival featuring live music, drag performances, DJs and entertainment throughout the afternoon and evening.
Across the city, a number of venues are hosting a wide range of Pride-themed events, including exhibitions, tours, cabaret shows, comedy, art workshops and club nights.
Among the highlights are the Mother Pride Block Party at the National Museum of Ireland, celebrations at The George and Pantibar, and a host of late-night Pride parties taking place across Dublin.
The city also hosted another parade on Friday with an estimated 1,000 participants – the Dublin Dyke March.
Participants marched down O’Connell Street and through the city centre to Barnardo Square, where the crowd gathered for the final speeches.
Speakers included activist, storyteller, Stonewall Survivor and butch Jay Toole, who joined the event from New York.
