A Moscow court has transferred to the state more than half the shares of Rusagro, placing the company under state control, the Russian news agency Interfax reported on May 5. The ruling came as part of a lawsuit against the company’s founder, former senator Vadim Moshkovich, and other co-defendants.

Among the assets transferred to the state were 65 percent of Rusagro’s shares, foreign currency seized during a search valued at more than 29 million rubles, all previously frozen funds in Moshkovich’s accounts totaling more than 10.5 billion rubles, and 100 percent of Moshkovich’s stake in Financial Resource LLC along with his stakes in a number of other companies.

The court declined to confiscate either a Moscow apartment in Khamovniki or a house in the village of Tagankowo on Rublyovka belonging to Moshkovich’s wife, Natalya Bykovskaya, Interfax said.

Russia’s Prosecutor General’s Office had sought the seizure of Moshkovich’s assets, arguing that he had committed corruption violations by continuing to run a business while serving as a senator from the Belgorod Region between 2006 and 2014, and by using his official position in the interests of the Rusagro holding.

Vadim Moshkovich is one of Russia’s wealthiest people. The business magazine Forbes Russia estimated his net worth at $2.9 billion in early 2026. Moshkovich has been under arrest since March 2025 on charges of fraud, abuse of authority, and bribery, making him the wealthiest Russian billionaire whose assets have been nationalized.
