The largest public hospital in Israel is set to be established in Beersheba. The construction of the Shimon Peres Medical Center in the Negev, located in the northeastern part of the city near the high-tech park and Ben-Gurion University, has entered its planning and coordination phase. Margolin Engineering and Consulting and Poran Shrem have been selected to manage the project, with investment estimated in the billions of shekels.

The overall blueprint for the medical center encompasses approximately 700,000 sq.m. of construction and around 2,100 hospital beds. Phase A of the project, which is now underway, includes building roughly 200,000 sq.m., comprising two main structures and extensive surrounding transportation infrastructure. On-site work is expected to begin toward 2028.

The medical campus will be strategically situated in the innovation district in northeastern Beersheba to create an infrastructural and scientific continuum with the Gav-Yam Negev High-Tech Park and Ben-Gurion University. According to the final master plan, the medical complex will ultimately house approximately 2,100 inpatient beds, representing an investment of billions of shekels.

Phase A of the project involves construction covering about 200,000 sq.m. and the addition of 600 inpatient beds. On-site development and construction work are expected to begin toward 2028, with execution of this stage projected to take approximately eight years.

A Major Infrastructure and Employment Project

Two main structures will be built during Phase A: An inpatient building housing an emergency medicine department, and an ambulatory building for clinics and day treatments, along with logistical support buildings and an independent energy center. Due to the scope of the project and the need for high accessibility, the infrastructure plan includes the construction of two new interchanges, a heavy rail station, and a dedicated light rail line connecting the complex to Beersheba's main traffic arteries. During the construction and operational phases of Phase A, the project is expected to generate approximately 3,000 new jobs in the region. Both management companies possess extensive engineering experience in handling complex health and infrastructure projects, representing a significant expansion of their operations.

For Margolin, this project joins another major win: Managing and supervising the construction of the new surgical inpatient building ("Building of Resurrection") at Soroka Medical Center in Beersheba, spanning roughly 70,000 sq.m. with an estimated cost of NIS 1.2 billion. Margolin is also managing the new inpatient building planned at Shaare Zedek, covering 140,000 sq.m. at NIS 1.7 billion for Phase A, as well as the ongoing construction of Assuta Hospital in Ashdod, Schneider Children's Medical Center, the Davidoff Center at Beilinson, Assuta Ramat Hachayal, and others. For Poran Shrem, securing the project builds on years of experience managing and constructing national projects, large-scale campuses, and complex infrastructure systems.

The engineering and project management firms Margolin Engineering and Consulting and Poran Shrem were chosen to lead the design management, coordination, and supervision of the new medical center's construction. The project is being spearheaded by Peres Negev (a joint venture of the Leumi and Meuhedet health funds), Sheba Negev in partnership with Sheba Medical Center, government bodies, and the Beersheba Municipality. It represents one of the most complex infrastructure and real estate ventures currently being advanced in Israel, set to become the country's largest future hospital.
