Roland Hutchinson · 2012-04-13 · via Comments for Geeky Gadgets

We heard earlier in the week from Vodafone UK that they would be releasing the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update for the Galaxy S II, and now Vodafone has announced that the update will be available today via Samsung’s Kies software.

Vodafone has also said that the update will be available as an over-the-air update, although this won’t start rolling out until next week on Tuesday the 17th of March.

Galaxy S II

After careful testing to ensure the highest level of quality for our customers, owners of the Samsung Galaxy S2 on Vodafone will be able to update their handsets to the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system on Friday 13 April.

Bringing all the great new features of the latest Android OS to your Samsung smartphone, the new update will initially be made available via Samsung KIES, with over-the-air updates becoming available on Tuesday 17 April.

What to Expect from the Ice Cream Sandwich Update

The Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update brings a host of new features and improvements to the Samsung Galaxy S II. Users can look forward to a revamped user interface that is more intuitive and visually appealing. The update includes a new lock screen, improved multitasking capabilities, and enhanced notifications. Additionally, the update introduces Face Unlock, a feature that allows users to unlock their phones using facial recognition technology.

Another significant improvement is the enhanced data management feature, which helps users monitor and control their data usage more effectively. This is particularly useful for those on limited data plans. The update also brings improved camera functionality, including the ability to take panoramic photos and improved video recording capabilities.

How to Update Your Galaxy S II

To update your Galaxy S II to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, you have two options: using Samsung’s Kies software or waiting for the over-the-air update. Here’s a step-by-step guide for both methods:

1. Using Samsung Kies:
– Download and install the Samsung Kies software on your computer from the official Samsung website.
– Connect your Galaxy S II to your computer using a USB cable.
– Open the Kies software and wait for it to recognize your device.
– Once your device is recognized, you should see a prompt to update your phone’s software. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the update process.

2. Over-the-Air Update:
– Ensure your phone is connected to a Wi-Fi network to avoid using your mobile data.
– Go to your phone’s Settings menu.
– Scroll down and select “Software Update.”
– Tap on “Check for Updates” and follow the on-screen instructions to download and install the update.

It is recommended to back up your data before proceeding with the update to avoid any potential data loss.

You can find out more information over at Vodafone’s official website. Leave a comment and let us know if you are able to update your Galaxy S II via the KIES software on Vodafone today.

The release of the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update for the Galaxy S II marks a significant milestone for Vodafone and Samsung users. This update not only enhances the overall user experience but also ensures that the Galaxy S II remains competitive with newer smartphone models. By providing both Kies and over-the-air update options, Vodafone ensures that all users can easily access the latest features and improvements.

The Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update for the Galaxy S II brings a wealth of new features and enhancements that will undoubtedly improve the user experience. Whether you choose to update via Samsung Kies or wait for the over-the-air update, the process is straightforward and well worth the effort. Don’t forget to share your update experience and any new features you find particularly useful!
