bureau betak builds whimsy fairy tale landscape for Chanel
For its Fall Winter 2026 Haute Couture presentation in Paris, Chanel stages its latest collection inside an enchanted world conceived by Bureau Betak, where monumental flowers, twisting vines, and oversized botanical forms transform the runway into an immersive environment. The scenography extends the central narrative of the collection, translating fairy tales into space as models move through a handcrafted landscape populated by climbing vegetation, hidden furniture, and fantastical blooms.
Drawing on stories including Jack and the Beanstalk and Goldilocks and the Three Bears, the collection explores fantasy through the established codes of the house. Tweed jackets become overgrown with embroidered flowers, vines climb across dresses and even wrap around heels, while braided hairstyles are adorned with birds and small found objects. Hidden inside several garments, personal notes, initials, and handwritten to-do lists suggest that each couture piece carries the story of its wearer, shifting fairy tales from familiar folklore to intimate narratives.
Bureau Betak’s scenography amplifies these ideas by enlarging the botanical motifs into inhabitable forms. Towering stems branch across the room, giant blossoms emerge from walls and ceiling, and looping vines weave around vintage-style chairs, mirrors, and decorative objects. Earth-toned walls and a softly painted sky overhead reinforce the feeling of stepping into a storybook landscape, while the oversized scale blurs distinctions between interior design, theatrical stage set, and immersive installation.

Floral embroidery echoes the oversized blooms surrounding the runway, while beadwork and appliqué follow vine-like patterns that reappear in Bureau Betak’s scenography. Botanical motifs shift between garment and set, creating visual continuity across different scales and materials.
The collection foregrounds the techniques of Chanel’s Haute Couture ateliers through dense embroidery, weaving, braiding, and appliqué. Flowers emerge from tweed jackets, translucent fabrics are layered with botanical motifs, and textured surfaces emphasize the handwork behind each look.
The presentation reflects a broader tendency for runway shows to extend beyond fashion into spatial design. Rather than separating collection and backdrop, Bureau Betak’s oversized flowers, climbing vines, and domestic furnishings establish an environment that shares the same visual language as the garments, placing scenography alongside couture as part of the presentation.
