EXCLUSIVE: The David Leitch directed action movie How to Rob a Bank is driving away from its Labor Day weekend release on Sept. 4 to Nov. 13.
The change is in an effort for the Amazon MGM Studios movie to grab a bigger 18-34 audience and play into the Thanksgiving holiday. The studio noticed recently how that demo has been responding to the film’s materials and energy.
How to Rob a Bank moves away from the Paramount Mark Wahlberg and Yahya Abdul-Mateeen II movie By Any Means, A24’s Onslaught and Disney/Pixar’s re-release of Cars to a new weekend where Warner Bros J.J. Abrams’ The Great Beyond and Paramount’s Johnny Depp Ebenezer: A Christmas Carol are currently dated.
Nicholas Hoult, Zoë Kravitz, Anna Sawai, Rhenzy Feliz, Christian Slater, Pete Davidson and John C. Reilly star in the movie from screenwriter Mark Bianculli which is billed as Point Break meets Fast and Furious (Leitch directed Fast and Furious spinoff, Hobbs & Shaw).
Pic follows a crew of social media-savvy bank robbers who broadcast their daring heists, unaware that their growing viral fame has put them in the crosshairs of a veteran FBI agent and a brilliant software engineer. Despite the unlikely duo closing in, the crime ring pushes past their limits, putting everything on the line for their beliefs – and their most ambitious heist yet.
Producers are Imagine’s Brian Grazer, Jeb Brody, Allan Mandelbaum and 87Eleven’s Kelly McCormick and Leitch.
