Christopher Nolan just added a surprising new title to his resume after nearly three decades behind the camera. The Odyssey’s end credits reveal an unexpected career first for the acclaimed filmmaker.
Christopher Nolan has earned his first songwriting credit in a 28-year directing career. ScreenRant exclusively reported that the filmmaker co-wrote lyrics for Travis Scott’s original end-credits song in The Odyssey. The track, titled “When I’m Home,” features contributions from Ludwig Göransson and James Blake as well.
Actor John Leguizamo, who plays Eumaeus in the film, confirmed the news during an interview. He expressed enthusiasm about Scott’s involvement with the closing credits. Leguizamo also highlighted Nolan’s role as one of the lyricists on the track.
“With Chris being one of the lyricists,” Leguizamo said during the conversation.
Universal subsequently verified the full credits for the song to the outlet. The track lists Göransson, Blake, Scott, and Nolan as its four co-writers. Blake, Scott, and Göransson perform the song, while Göransson and Blake share production duties.
Scott also appears in The Odyssey in an acting capacity alongside the ensemble cast. He portrays a bard who recites verses about the Trojan War for soldiers. His character’s name has not yet been publicly revealed by the studio.
The film stars Matt Damon as Odysseus, Zendaya as Athena, and Tom Holland as Telemachus. Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o, Charlize Theron, and Elliot Page round out the cast. Jon Bernthal and several other prominent actors also join this large-scale production.
Nolan is already making history with The Odyssey as the first feature film shot entirely on IMAX. The production used brand-new IMAX 70mm cameras throughout filming. Pre-sale records have already fallen in the UK, where BFI IMAX sold 28,000 tickets. That figure more than doubled the previous record set by Dune: Part Two.
The Odyssey arrives in theaters on July 17.
