Keanu Reeves gave a very distinctive description of his upcoming sci-fi thriller movie with Deadpool director Tim Miller. The project was originally announced back in late October 2025. At the time, reports stated that it was tonally similar to Tom Cruise-led Edge of Tomorrow and the survival horror The Shallows, starring Blake Lively.
During an interview with Collider about his new docuseries Hooligans: The ARCH Racing Project. Reeves faced questions about Shiver, his highly anticipated collaboration with Miller. The Matrix actor confirmed that he was getting ready to film a project with Miller in the Dominican Republic. When asked to tease the movie, Reeves briefly but succinctly replied, “Sharks. Time machine. Groundhog Day.”
This prompted the interviewer to say, “Everything you just said sounds f—ing amazing.” Reeves enthusiastically raised both hands before replying, “Yeah, man.” He also revealed that he is looking forward to spending a lot of time in the water. “And getting eaten by sharks,” Reeves jokingly added.
Reeves’s latest characterization of the movie aligns with its original description. After all, Groundhog Day and Edge of Tomorrow both follow a protagonist who relives the same day over and over. Time is an important plot device in those movies. Additionally, The Shallows follows Lively’s Nancy Adams, a medical student stranded in the ocean not far from the shore, trying to survive the attacks of a great white shark.
According to the plot description, Shiver revolves around a smuggler (Reeves) who finds himself in the middle of a deadly double-cross while on a job in the Caribbean Sea, resulting in him getting surrounded by bodies, hostile mercenaries, and thirsty sharks alike, all while stuck in a deathly time loop and scrambling to break the cycle.
Ian Shorr penned the script for the movie. The cast also includes Callie Cooke, Nicholas Duvernay, Steven Waddington, and Abraham Popoola. Shiver premieres on August 13, 2027.
