What’s basketball without debating which players are in the greatest of all time category and examining legacies in the middle of the postseason?

Fox Sports’ Chris Broussard recently shared his thoughts on the matter, particularly Houston Rockets forward Kevin Durant and how his legacy might have changed had he not left the Golden State Warriors.

The Rockets staved off playoff elimination by beating the Los Angeles Lakers in game four of the first round of the NBA playoffs. However, that isn’t what Broussard is focused on.

“If (Durant) stayed in Golden State he probably has 4 championships” Broussard said while speaking with Colin Cowherd on The Herd. “At least 3. And instead of Steph Curry being the guy we’re throwing in the top ten all-time, it’s Kevin Durant. His legacy is completely different.”

The former Texas Longhorn has built one of the most accomplished careers of his generation. The MVP winner has led the league in scoring multiple times while being arguably the best player on back-to-back championship teams while a member of the Warriors in 2017 and 2018. He earned Finals MVP honors both titles.

Durant was a member of the Warriors from 2016 to 2019, notably jumping ship from the Oklahoma City Thunder after being eliminated from the playoffs the year prior by the Warriors despite OKC having a 3-1 lead in the series. Durant joined a Warriors team that completed a 73-win regular season, the most wins in league history.

During the 2019 NBA Finals, Durant suffered ruptured his Achilles after returning from a calf injury. Some speculated the return to the court might have been premature and reason for the Achilles tear. He missed the entire 2019–20 season as a result of the injury.

He later joined the Brooklyn Nets before moving on to several other franchises. He has not won another title since leaving the Warriors, who won one before and after Durant’s time in the Bay Area.

Durant finds himself in a much difficult playoff path in the Western Conference bracket with this current Rockets team. Houston still faces an uphill battle just to advance past the first round, needing to win three more games in-a-row to move on to the second round.

There they’d face the defending champion and top seed in the Western Conference Oklahoma City Thunder, who just finished the first round with a sweep.
