Simply put, Victor Wembanyama is a unicorn. The San Antonio Spurs big man continues to dominate night in and night out, putting up unthinkable numbers in the box score while creating highlight plays left, right and center.

In a Game Five series clinching game against the Portland Trail Blazers, Wembanyama pulled off another unbelievable accomplishment to propel the Spurs a 114-95 win Tuesday night and advance to the second round. It was something no other player had accomplished in nearly 30 years.

“Victor Wembanyama is the first player since Hakeem Olajuwon (1997) with consecutive games with 10+ REB and 6+ BLK,” according to Underdog.

Wembanyama finished the game with 17 points, 14 rebounds and six blocks. It was just another example of his dominant defensive performance all series.

According to ESPN, Wembanyama is just the third player since 1973-74 (when blocks became an official NBA stat) to average 20 points and four blocks over his first four career playoff games.

“That was just one example of how a series can go, and that’s a good way to start the playoffs,” Wembanyama told reporters. “We gained experience. And I’m still hungry for even better matchups.”

Performances like Tuesday night against the Trail Blazers are becoming the expectation, not the exception, for Wemby.

His two-way dominance has drawn widespread praise across the basketball world, with legends of the game and analysts struggling to find proper comparisons for 22-year-old. That includes comments from Inside the NBA’s Shaquille O’Neal.

“I think Wemby is the first perfect big man that’s ever been created. He can shoot, free throws, play defense, play offense, and he’s a great team player. I’m happy for Wemby. For me, in a long time, he’s a joy to watch,” O’Neal said.

The spotlight will be even brighter on the young French national with the Spurs advancing to the second round of the playoffs for the first time in his young career.

The Western Conference two-seeded Spurs will have to wait and see if they’ll be play No. 3 seed Denver Nuggets or No. 6 seed Minnesota Timberwolves, who have a 3-2 series lead.
