The New York Knicks have been close to flawless in the 2026 NBA Playoffs, rolling through the Atlanta Hawks and taking a 2-0 series lead over the Philadelphia 76ers. But a late-night injury update on one of their best players has shifted the mood a bit.

Stefan Bondy of New York Post was first to share the news on X, posting that “OG Anunoby is questionable for tomorrow and is considered day to day.” He followed that up with a second post confirming that “Anunoby was diagnosed with a right hamstring strain, per source.”

Anunoby exited Game 2 after appearing to clutch the back of his leg, and coach Mike Brown said he had no update immediately after the game. The diagnosis gives a bit more clarity, but the severity of the strain is still unknown.

Game 3 is in Philadelphia, and the Knicks will want every weapon available as the series shifts to a hostile road environment. How available Anunoby actually is remains the biggest question right now.

It would be hard to overstate how important Anunoby has been to New York this playoff run. He is averaging 21.3 points per game on remarkable shooting splits, and has been the Knicks’ most consistent scorer night in and night out.

In Game 2 alone, he finished with 24 points, five rebounds, and four steals. The Knicks needed that effort badly, as the 76ers tied the game 14 times before New York pulled away late.

A big reason Anunoby has thrived is the presence of Mikal Bridges. With Bridges handling the tougher perimeter matchups, Anunoby has been able to conserve energy, attack bigger defenders, and stay aggressive on offense throughout the postseason.

Without him, Philadelphia gets a much cleaner path to disrupt New York’s offense. The 76ers can load up on Jalen Brunson and Karl-Anthony Towns, and Paul George gets a far easier assignment on the defensive end.

Hamstring strains have a way of snowballing in the playoffs. Luka Doncic suffered one on April 2 and has been sidelined ever since, with multiple weeks recovery timeline that might effectively end his postseason. If Anunoby’s strain turns out to be anywhere near as serious, the Knicks would have a real problem on their hands.

That said, the Knicks do have depth. Bridges has averaged 19.7 points over his last three appearances, and Brunson has been elite all postseason. New York is not short on weapons even without their leading scorer.

But a win in Game 3 would put this series almost completely out of reach for Philly, and the Knicks will want to close it out with their full roster. With the severity of the strain still unknown, day-to-day is the only answer anyone has right now.
