Former Bills receiver attempting a comeback.

A former Buffalo Bills wide receiver is looking to make a comeback.

Chase Claypool tried to make the Bills in 2024 as he signed a one-year contract. However, in training camp, he was placed on injured reserve after tearing a ligament and tendon in his second toe and was eventually released with an injury settlement.

Since then, Claypool hasn’t gotten any contracts, but he’s now expected to take part in the Green Bay Packers rookie camp.

“The Packers will have former Steelers and Bears WR Chase Claypool at their rookie minicamp for a tryout. Claypool last played in 2023,” Ari Meirov wrote on X.

ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter then confirmed the report and revealed the Packers tried to trade for Claypool earlier in his career.

“Green Bay once had an interest in trading for Chase Claypool,” Schefter added.

Claypool was selected in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft by the Pittsburgh Steelers. He was then traded to the Chicago Bears for a 2023 second-round pick in November of 2022.

The 6-foot-4 receiver was then traded to the Miami Dolphins midway through the 2023 season, before signing with the Bills in 2024.

Claypool’s best season came in 2020 when he recorded 62 receptions for 873 yards and 9 touchdowns. In his NFL career, he’s recorded 175 receptions for 2,261 yards and 13 touchdowns.

Claypool Called Signing With Bills ‘Best Thing’

Claypool is from Canada, and he was ecstatic to sign with the Bills.

The Canadian announced last July that he could finally get back on the field following his injury and was eager for a return to football. In his announcement, he also had plenty of praise for the Bills organization.

“Signing with Buffalo was the best thing that could’ve ever happened to me,” Claypool wrote on Instagram. “I was the strongest, fastest, and most prepared I had ever been. I was playing my best football — working my way up from LAST (14th) string to taking first-team reps by camp. Most of all, I was doing it with a group of guys I truly appreciated.

“I want to thank Josh for taking me in the way he did, AJ and Greg for showing me the kindness they did, the entire receiver room who made me feel like family, the O-line for having my back always, and my receiver coach, who never failed to check on me throughout this entire last year — sending me motivational videos and helping me get past what I was going through. As well as a thank you to Coach McDermott and Beane for affording me the opportunity. It was a pleasure.”

Claypool will now get a look with the Packers to try to revive his NFL career.

Buffalo Drafts Bell

The Bills did address their wide receiver room in the NFL Draft by selecting Skyler Bell in the fourth round.

Bell is expected to contribute right away, and he believes he can make an impact all over the field.

“I would say I’m dynamic; I’m explosive, versatile,” said Bell. “I could do a lot of different things, inside, outside, deep ball, contested catches, intermediate catches. So, I think I could do a lot of different things.”

Bell recorded 101 receptions for 1,278 yards and 13 touchdowns last season at UConn.
