I Want What I Think They Have: Sarah Pidgeon and Joe Alwyn
Emma Specter · 2026-06-17 · via Vogue

Love is a many-splendored thing, especially when you’re gawking at it from the outside. In this column, we examine the celebrity couples who give us hope for our own romantic futures as we try to learn what we can from their well-documented bonds.

It should be clear from my Love Story recaps just how highly I think of Sarah Pidgeon, who brought the admittedly challenging role of Carolyn Bessette Kennedy to life with enough panache and cool, intimidating blondness to make the show appointment viewing (despite its occasional flop moments). The chemistry between Pidgeon and Paul Anthony Kelly—who, of course, played JFK Jr.—was, in a word, bananas, but as it turns out, Pidgeon’s cooking up a real-life romance that might just make her ’90s New York era look like child’s play.

In the wake of the Knicks’ big win on Saturday, it seemed like everybody in the Big Apple was blissfully making out this weekend—and Pidgeon was apparently no exception. She and actor Joe Alwyn were spotted dining, walking arm in arm, and even kissing in New York this past weekend, after also being seen hanging out in Brooklyn the week prior. Dare I say they’re sort of looking like a capital-T Thing.

Obviously, Alwyn is not without his own prior beautiful-blonde-famous-girlfriend baggage, as the first thing that tends to come up when you google him is “Joe Alwyn Taylor Swift ex.” But the two broke up a full three years ago, and Swift is straight-up engaged to someone else now; I think it’s time for us, as a culture, to respectfully let Alwyn be googled on his own merits. (Hey, he was great in The Brutalist!) If Taylor has Travis, why should Alwyn still be pigeonholed—or, heh, Pidgeon-holed—as anyone’s former partner?

I don’t know much about Pidgeon’s dating life prior to Alwyn (in fact, I don’t know much about her IRL life period, apart from the fact that she iconically wore Loewe to this year’s Met Gala and she occasionally takes the subway while holding a gently ironic tote bag. Stars: they’re just like us!), but I’ve always thought Alwyn seemed like a lovely guy, and I hope he and Pidgeon are having fun as they gallivant around New York in the first flush of new love—or new “like,” at the very least.
