Stephen Colbert taped his final broadcast of “The Late Show” last night at the Ed Sullivan Theater, and we hear there were no press allowed in the audience — or at an after-party following the finale.
An after-party was scheduled for 8 p.m. on Thursday night at an NYC events space called Second, according to an invitation seen by Page Six Hollywood.
The invitation said, “That’s a Wrap! (Party)” adding the attire was, “Fired & Festive!”
Attendees spotted at the send-off included Paul McCartney, Drew Barrymore, Ewan McGregor, Padma Lakshmi, Tiffany Haddish, John Oliver, Katie Couric, Gayle King, Keegan-Michael Key, Paul Rudd, Jon Batiste, Mark Hamill, Patton Oswalt, Steve Buscemi, Padma Lakshmi and “Weird Al” Yankovic, among others.
Making appearances on the final show wereMcCartney, Bryan Cranston, Ryan Reynolds, Rudd, Oliver, Tig Notaro, Seth Meyers, Jimmy Kimmel, Jimmy Fallon, Andy Cohen, Neil DeGrasse Tyson and Elvis Costello.
The guests for the final Thursday show were not announced in advance.
CBS said last summer it would end “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,” and not continue the long-running “Late Show” franchise.
The move was made amidst controversy as the Paramount-owned network explained the move was “purely a financial decision against a challenging backdrop,” but skeptics thought the move might be retribution for the host’s ongoing war-of-words with President Trump.
Colbert’s rivals Kimmel and Fallon ran reruns to appear on Colbert’s show instead. The former Comedy Central personality took over the CBS show in 2015 after David Letterman retired.
