There was a moment at the end of the PGA Tour’s anticipated summit Tuesday in advance of the Travelers Championship outside Hartford, Conn., that felt equal parts awkward and “Captain Obvious.’’
Brian Rolapp, who was hired as the CEO of the PGA Tour a year ago after an impressive run as NFL commissioner Roger Goodell’s right-hand man, had just finished mapping out an aggressive new business strategy for the tour.
The plan divides the tour into a Championship Series and a Challenger Series with opportunities to elevate and relegate.
He also announced that the end-of-the-season Tour Championship will morph into a match-play format and be rotated around iconic venues across the U.S. that potentially include Pine Valley.
