The Dream rank fifth in defensive rating over that same stretch and lead the league in steals per game, led by Rhyne Howard’s 19.1 points and 2.9 steals per contest. Veteran Allisha Gray is averaging 19.6 points, and Angel Reese continues to fill up the stat sheet with a double-double average of 15.3 points and 11.9 rebounds. Depth is another key aspect for Atlanta, as five players are averaging double figures, making it difficult for opponents to focus on stopping any one player.
Toronto’s biggest issue entering this matchup is availability. The Tempo have lost three of their last four games and will be without Brittney Sykes, Kiki Rice, and Nyara Sabally. That’s a significant amount of production missing from a team that was already struggling defensively. If Toronto is going to stay competitive, it will likely start with another big night from Mabrey. The problem is that Atlanta has already shown what this matchup can look like. The Dream beat Toronto 102-77 last week, and the Tempo are entering this rematch with an even thinner rotation. Asking one hot scorer to overcome that kind of depth disadvantage against one of the league’s hottest teams is a tough sell.
Atlanta is playing too well, and Toronto is missing too many pieces. The Dream have already dominated this matchup once and should be able to create similar separation again.
