Blake Krass gives his prediction and pick for the 2026 ATP Madrid Open final between Jannik Sinner and Alexander Zverev.
The 2026 Madrid Open final is set between the World No. 1 Jannik Sinner and the World No. 3 Alexander Zverev. Sinner continues his reign of dominance as he looks to win his fifth consecutive ATP Masters 1000 event. Meanwhile, Alexander Zverev stepped up in the absence of Carlos Alcaraz to make it to this big final.
Jannik Sinner is -630 to win the match, while Alexander Zverev is listed at +441 on DraftKings Sportsbook to pull off the upset. The match begins at 11:00 a.m. ET.
Alexander Zverev is hoping to win his eighth career ATP Masters 1000 title. Of Zverev’s seven previous Masters 1000 wins, four of them have come on clay. Of those four clay wins, two have been here at the Madrid Open. Alexander Zverev won this event in 2018 and 2021. This is one of the rare events where Zverev has a more illustrious history than Jannik Sinner. He has won this title twice and has always been a great player on clay.
This is a massive opportunity for Zverev to beat Sinner in a big final. Zverev’s career has been defined by coming up just short. He has been the No. 2 player in the world but has never reached No. 1. He has reached three Grand Slam finals but has never won a major. This is Zverev’s chance to prove his greatness and secure his third career Madrid Open title.
Jannik Sinner has been a machine over the last couple of months. Sinner started the year by disappointingly losing to Carlos Alcaraz in the Australian Open final. However, Sinner has dominated the Masters series to start the year. He pulled off the Sunshine Double, winning in Indian Wells and Miami. That wasn’t totally surprising, given Sinner’s brilliance on hardcourt in recent years. The more surprising win was Sinner’s victory over Alcaraz on clay in the Monte-Carlo Masters.
Alcaraz is out of this event due to injury and will miss the Italian Open and French Open as well. There is a huge window for Sinner to stack titles on clay, the surface where Alcaraz has clearly been better than him over the years. That would include winning at Roland Garros, completing the career Grand Slam for Sinner.
The head-to-head series between Jannik Sinner and Alexander Zverev has become incredibly lopsided. Zverev won four of his first five career meetings against Sinner. While Sinner was breaking out, Zverev was one of the players who seemed to be on another level than the young Italian. However, since the start of 2024, Sinner is a remarkable 8-0 against Zverev. These two have faced off in three Masters 1000 semi-finals already this year in Miami, Indian Wells and Monte-Carlo. Sinner has won each of those in two sets. In fact, Sinner’s last five wins against Zverev all came in straight sets. Sinner has also won both of his career finals against Zverev, both in 2025, at the Australian Open and Vienna Open.
My best bet for this match is for Jannik Sinner to win in two sets. While clay was always considered Sinner’s weak point, he has won 10 straight matches on clay, and eight of those have come in two sets. Additionally, he has won five straight matches over Zverev in two sets, the most recent one coming on clay in Monte-Carlo. Sinner should add another ATP Masters 1000 title to his trophy case and continue his dominance over Zverev in this final.
